Our 8 wk old has an inguinal hernia which is not an immediate cause for concern but the surgeons have said they would rather operate soon to prevent any risk of damage to his testicles. They have put him on the soonest/ cancellation list for surgery but did not tell us there might be a conflict with his 8 wk imms, which he had yesterday.
The HV said new guidance is coming out soon to say that it isn't a problem but that for now it would be down to the individual anaesthetist and how they felt about the risk.
Thing is, I'm not sure how I feel about the risk! He has a heart murmur and although he's really thriving he was unexpectedly small at term (5lbs, 6.5oz), so is only around 9lbs now. We've been really happy with the advice from the cardiologist to be robust with him and treat him normally - and he's certainly a strong wee soul - but I can't help feeling that shutting down his immune system whilst he still has these vaccines in his system may not be such a good idea.
I get the feeling that no-one medical wants to specifically advise us either way, so I guess if it comes to it we'll have to decide for ourselves whether to postpone. Does anyone have any useful info to put this decision into some perspective? I mean, with the risk of Hosp Acq Inf, which we'll just have to accept, am I being stupid even to worry about this?
