A very trivial question about temperature

DH and I had a disagreement this morning about what is normal body temperature (he though 36.6C and I thought around 37C). So I looked it up on NHS Direct and DH was right, they said 36C - 36.8C.

My question is this, is it also normal, if unusual, for people to be outside this range, in the same way as there are always a few people who are unusually tall/short? I don't think I've ever had a temperature as low as 36.6C, I feel healthy at the moment and my temperature is 37.3C which is what I expected it to be. I used to often take my temperature before taking ds's when he was little because he wouldn't resist if he saw me doing it, and it was always at least 37.2C.

afaik there will be slight personal variations. Also it varies as to where you put the thermometer. I can never remember which way round it is but (for example) underarm is slightly different to under the tongue.

no expert but have definitely always had a slightly lower temperature myself.

Plus I do know for a fact that it varies throughout the day. Hence if you are taking temps for ovulation charting purposes the importance of taking temp at same exact moment each day - immediately upon waking...

HTH

BTW you ought to argue about more important stuff

My dd always runs cold, around 35 usually. When in the hossie they always try to warm her up but she's only warmer if she's ill.

Under the arm temp is cooler usually. I think you supposed to add on .5C.

I used an in-the-ear thermometer. I also checked dh's temp for reference, he expected to be 36.6C and was 36.6C in one ear and 36.7C in the other.

I am a hot person generally, if I touch someone else, to shake hands for instance, the other person almost always feels cool or cold to me. But before ds I would never have taken my temperature unless I was feeling feverish, so didn't know what normal was.

LQK, it was more of a disagreement really. DH and I like a bit of a bicker.

I use an in ear too and mine is always about 37.2. I read somewhere that you should see the doc if its constantly above 37 - don't know why though. I feel really healthy so it can't be too much of an issue.
