Constant bleeding on copper coil

Hello All,

So I had a copper coil fitted on 28th of April this year. Since then I have been bleeding every single day. It's not heavy just a few drops each day and some small clots. I also have quite strong cramps every 2nd or 3rd day. Any ideas what's going on?
I'm really keen to avoid hormones, I was on the depo injection before and had excruciating back pain with it when I was on my period.
I have never in my life had regular periods (Maybe 1 per year) so I'm thinking it's karma and I'm making up for the lost time🤣
Anyone else experienced anything similar?
Thanks

I had exactly the same for about 9 months then had it removed as I was so fed up.

I had a copper coil in for 10 years and rarely stopped spotting and had heavy periods too. I know you said no hormones but I had the Mirena put in last year and haven't had so much as a period since.

I’ve been bleeding for a few months now. Usually not heavy (sometimes just spotting) but it’s constant. So annoying. I’ve actually had blood tests done (all fine) and am going in for an ultrasound.

I did think it could possibly be the coil but assumed that the GP would already know this and tell me. I’ll be really annoyed if it’s just the coil (copper as well). I really wanted something non-hormonal.

I didn’t realise that other women have also had this issue.

That sounds tough! I think they can't really predict how each individual will react to the coil. They say to expect disruptions for 6 months but in my case, I only had random spotting for the first month or so and have been back to my regular cycle since (I've always been very regular). I think maybe give it another couple of months if you can bare it, but if there's no improvement maybe its not right for you.

Thanks guys,

It's kind of reassuring to hear that it's not just me.

Maybe as you have suggested I'll try for another couple of months and swap to an alternative if no change.

Xeren,

It's so annoying that you have to go through all the extra poking and examinations but, in the grand scheme of things hopefully it's caused by your coil.
And I wasn't aware of this could happen either. I thought it was just my weird body (I have been called a curious case before - gynaecologycally speaking).

I'm sure I had the world's longest periods when I was on the copper coil. 27 days of bleeding, one day off, and then the bleeding started up again! My GP said it would settle after a few months, but it didn't, so I had it removed.

I now use a diaphragm. Unfortunately they don't seem to make the old-style diaphragms that came in a variety of sizes and you were fitted with the correct one. I still miss my old Reflexions diaphragm...it was so comfortable. Today I use a Caya diaphragm, which is one-size-fits-(almost)-all. You can order it on Amazon.

I think the copper coil is notorious for this I'm afraid. Mirena can do the same but you've got the hormones there to act to modify it.
I'd give it another month and if no better get it out,
