Falling asleep on the sofa, but not in bed......help!

Maybe it's my age (64) maybe it's just me.......but after my lunch or tea, I can lean back on the sofa close my eyes and nod off in no time at all. Not saying it's deep sleep, but I definitely nod off for a good 15/20 mins.
Fast forward to bedtime and it's a whole different story.......I love my bed, cosy comfortable and warm. Yet on so many occasions I either struggle to get to sleep or wake up in the dreaded early hours and struggle to get back to sleep.

If that sounds like you please share your experiences, it's honestly really puzzling me how I can nod off in seconds on my sofa, but not in the place the majority of people equate with sleep, my bed.

If I'm at work never ever feel tired, lacking in energy or in need of a pick me up, I just keep going and going all through the day.

Thanks in anticipation of your thoughts.

Perhaps you shouldn't nap at all on the sofa - maybe it's disrupting your sleep pattern?
Or possibly you feel no pressure to fall asleep on the sofa, so are relaxed enough mentally to snooze. When you go to bed, you feel tense because you've had issues dropping off so it becomes a vicious cycle.

Napping on the sofa is definitely not intentional, just can't keep me eyes open. As for bed, I think that's more complicated, I always make sure I'm ready for sleep by reading first to make me more tired but I agree with you that it's a viscious cycle. I think it's much worse when I fall asleep pretty quickly but wake in the early hours......hate that. So much harder to get back to sleep.

I think that 15 / 20 min nap on the sofa is taking the edge of your tiredness, so you are no longer tired enough to fall off to sleep once you get into bed later on.

My worst menopause symptom was early waking/ insomnia. At 64 you're probably post menopause but it might be something hormonal.? Oestrogen levels impact the hypothalamus.
