Night time hallucinations?

Does anyone else experience night time hallucinations or is it just me? If I wake up in the night, which I do frequently, I see visions in the room which disappear before my eyes when my brain adjusts. It's been happening for years. Is it common? if so how can I stop it.

Bumping. Is it just me then? Perhaps I'm going mad or the room is haunted

Your not on your own.
I get this all of the time.

I have seen hands coming throught he ceiling,
A man standing by the side of the bed, and insects crawling about.

Lots of others I could mention.

I often wake up yelling really frightend.
My dh takes no notice any more and just thinks she is dreaming again.

Some of the things I have seen have been really convincing.

What have you seen.

I get this too, it seriously scares me sometimes...on a few occasions I have actually screamed because the visions looked so real. One that sticks in my mind was a vision of Spider-man I had which probably sounds funny now but all I saw was him descending on me and it scared the shit out of me god knows what the neighbours must have thought.

I have had them for years too, the earliest one I remember was when I was about 7 I "saw" a black cat sat on my drawers and as I watched it for a few seconds it suddenly lunged at me and then disapeared. (que...more screams which got put down to a nightmare but I was definately awake...or semi awake at least).

I always worried it was something from with my head but I think its more common than we think, its a state of semi conciousness. Its when you experience hallucinations whilst walking down the street that you need to panic

Do you also "look" at normal objects in your room and mistake them for something 'strange'? the worst one for me is the lampshade. Sometimes in my semi concious state I will look at it and for the life of me just cannot figure out what it is and then I panic thinking its something sinister before realising its just the lightshade.

Thank god for that. I see people standing over me. Giant spiders crawling on the curtains. Teddies crawling up the wall. Flying umbrellas. Hands floating around the room. Lots more. Sometimes I yelp out as it feels so real. Very similar to how you describe it.

My eyes are always open and the images fade in front of my eyes. Lately though its been disturbing me. No-one else I know gets these experiences so glad to know I'm not alone.

I get a vibrating sensation in my bed. (Sounds nice) but isnt and the worst feeling is being pinned down by a presence although this is very rare thank god.

This might be of interest to people who suffer from this...

Hi
Mrssnape

I imagined the once that a dressing gown hanging up on the bedroom door was a man standing with his back to me.

I had to keep looking at it and I think when I gradually must have come round I realised it was the dressing gown.

I thought I saw a large black dog bouncing towards me the one night and I sat up yelling.

I have also had this years.

spiker · 26/02/2008 22:37

Not had them full-on for years, but yes. Sleep hallucinations don't mean anything per se (you're not mad!).

Remotew · 26/02/2008 22:40

How weird I think I've had that bloody spider man visit me too. My dressing gown often takes on another life form. Also on a couple of nights I've heard a voice.

Christ if I saw or heard anything when fully concious I would be worried.
