Yes, it's quite common. Get yourself some Corsodyl antibacterial mouthwash, use regularly and it should clear up. If not, book a trip to the dental hygienist. Also it's important to keep brushing your gums, even if it makes them bleed more.

DaisyDuckShoes · 26/07/2023 19:58

Are you eating a balanced diet? I think some deficiencies will do that.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 26/07/2023 20:06

Are you flossing? It's one of the first signs of gum disease which can be brought on by plaque build up under the gums.

I hate flossing so have a water pick which helped mine massively.

EllaPaella · 26/07/2023 22:24

As above, quite common if you have gum disease. Do you visit the dentist regularly for check ups?
Good cleaning, flossing and then using tepe brushes followed by mouthwash will help a lot. And a trip to the hygienist for a proper clean.

I used to get this - got a bollocking from dentist years ago ( like 20 years ago)
3 things will sort it

  1. an electronic toothbrush- a good one like oral b type; a minimum of 2 mins twice per day ensuring you focus on back/ inside of teeth and right into back of mouth. I typically spend 3 minutes in truth to properly do. I actively work on each tooth not just wave it around the mouth randomly while thinking about something else - focus on both sides of each tooth
  2. use a toothpaste specifically for plaque prevention - again oral b or odd quality specialist one. Forget stupid all whitening ones - get anti plaque one
  3. interdental brushes like tippee. They come in different colours for size of gaps, so find right ones for your teeth and you’ll need different sizes for various parts of your mouth . Buy a few sizes then see what fits- tight but not so you have to force it in . Use these to go between your teeth each day or twice per day to start. You’ll be shocked how much comes out even though you do it after the main tooth brush. I add a little drop of tooth paste to mine as well. To do properly will take another 2 mins - more when you first start .again work methodically in each and every gap right to the back

but, if plaque builds up it calcifies- this needs to be removed by dentist using a scraper ( not pleasant) or these days a jet water spray ( better). Whilst this can be uncomfortable, you will have to go through it to get off the hardened plaque. Once off the above regime should control it. Don’t try to do this yourself - you can damage your gums badly or even damage enamel of tooth - the gums will bleed during the dentist removal but they know h what they’re doing.

i got rid of my bleeding gums within 4 weeks of starting to do this. 20 years later I never have issues and get good feedback on my gum health from dentist. I do go to dentist every 6 month and get a clean- I have, since menopause, got a “ weak” spot between my lower 4 very front teeth where saliva gathers that plaque does slowly deposit on despite the above- a quick blast with pressure jet removes it and keeps under control.

don’t panic and become anxious. You can easily get on top of it and control it for ever! You need a strong routine . Go buy the stuff, start working on the routine but you will need that dental appointment to get rid of calcification deposit- if necessary go private for this one time to get the problem sorted

i dont probably need to say but as well as causing tooth loss, there’s evidence to show gum disease contributes to heart problems and even potentially dementia in later life. Still early research, but this is so simple eliminate as a risk factor and sort out.

get cracking!

Just seen on link that you can buy a pack with all colours to start to find out ones that fit and then buy in those colours only
I change them every 2 days so you’ll need plenty

You could brush your teeth 100 times a day and still have bleeding gums if you're not brushing your gums and flossing, Food, plaque all gets in between your teeth.

Gingivitis is very common and with good oral health resolves itself. Corsodyl mouthwash is only a temp solution for a couple of weeks max as it stains your teeth.

Gingivitis which is left untreated usually turns into periodontitis that's you can't treat and will always get worse. There are treatments in place to kind of halt the perio problems getting bigger but nothing ever completely treats it.

beeloubee · 27/07/2023 18:29

It's inflammation and weak collagen. Vit c absorption issues.

Triflenot · 27/07/2023 21:26

Don’t use an electric toothbrush on your gums.

Triflenot · 27/07/2023 21:29

beeloubee
Can you expand on what you mean by weak collagen please?

SM4713 · 27/07/2023 21:44

DH started getting bleeding gums about 2yrs ago. His dentist said that vaping was certainly a contributing factor- which he does! He also has a family history of receeding gums- which might also be the cause

Initially, he was told to use corsedyl mouthwash and a gel on his gums-so I'm unsure if there was infection or gingivitis there also? The dentist also said to buy a water pick. He also now uses those coloured tooth stick things to floss with too. Its very rare that they bleed now, even though he still vapes.

SophieJo · 28/07/2023 09:46

I get gingivitis sometimes and yes blood appears when I brush.

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 28/07/2023 09:54

You don't actually need to buy anything sorcial for bleeding gums, you just need to brush and floss them more thoroughly. If that doesn't improve things things in a few days, then consider corsydol for a bit. Normal though - it's a sign you're not brushing properly.

Bonfire23 · 28/07/2023 10:11

Interdental brushes and I dip them in a gum gel, cleared up my bleeding very quickly

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/07/2023 10:13

Yes and I found a water flosser mostly sorted it out.

HarveyDanger · 28/07/2023 10:14

How can you have massive health anxiety bit vape?… The jury’s out on what the chemicals are doing to your body

(Mh) anxieties are not usually rational, neither is nicotine addiction
