If DD2's temperature is 4 degrees f BELOW normal ...

... does that mean that she's feeling a bit crap?!

She's always had a normal temperature of around 97 point something and today, after some uncharacteristic tears over a number of silly things I took her temperature to just check what was going on and found that it was 93 point something.

That was a surprise!!

It's most likely a false reading. How did you take her temperature?

Snowstorm · 26/02/2008 13:16

Electronic ear jobby, as usual. Did both ears as couldn't believe first ear's reading!

According to my celcius convertor, that's 33°C, so either she is suffering from hypothermia or it's false reading ( which can happen, I've seen plenty)

belgo · 26/02/2008 13:19

how does she feel? does she feel hot or cold?

Mercy · 26/02/2008 13:21

That can't be right. She'd be very noticeably ill with a temp that low.

belgo · 26/02/2008 13:23

are you sure the termometer was right inside her ear? I don't like ear thermometers - it's hard to get them in far enough and they can actually hurt.

seeker · 26/02/2008 13:24

I think it means your thermometer's gone wrong. That's why I think thermometers are a really bad idea in most circumstances. You can tell if a child is hot or not - and if you can't tell it's unlikely to be significant. If you kiss her forehead does it feel the way it always does, or warmer or colder?

belgo · 26/02/2008 13:24

or it needs new batteries!

Snowstorm · 26/02/2008 13:26

She feels warm ... but then I have really poor circulation and my hands are always freezing cold so I can't really rely on the touch test, hence the thermometer.

Perhaps the batteries are going?!

I'll just go and check what my temperature is ... oh, mine's normal.

Will go and check DD2's again ... okay-kokay, that's back at 97.

Weird.

Ah well, never mind.

Thank you all anyway!

Just read that if body temp falls below 35 degrees then it counts as hypothermia and she would be showing obvious signs - e.g uncontrollable shivering

belgo · 26/02/2008 13:27

unconcious probably with a temperature of 33°C!

glad it's ok snowstorm.

Snowstorm · 26/02/2008 13:27

Will bear that in mind for future reference Mercy!

Thank you all.
