Cut long story short seen a new dentist who is new to surgery. I had dental X-ray it was a check up. He said I have an infection between two teeth I need a ct scan to know which tooth it is and then he said oooohh not sure about this. I need to ask another dentist don’t know what to do I’m so sorry. I’ve left a nervous wreck… I’m worried it’s something dangerous going on never been asked to have ct scan. Anyone here for advice I would appreciate it.

Would let you know what though?

Call them and tell them that they need to get another dentist to review the x-ray.

I've never once had or heard of a CT scan for a tooth

It will be CBCT, a very small area CT scan. Completed appropriate if needing to assess an area in 3d rather than the 2d a traditional xray gives.

I work in dentistry and never known a dentist to send someone for a CT scan.

Also, it's very common practice for a new dentist or any dentist in fact to ask a second opinion on something or treatment.
Especially if they new dentist is newly qualified and working in NHS they actually have to have a mentor so most things have to be run past them.

Yes would be CBCT very common in dental practices these days. Are they able to do the CBCT at the same practice or referring you to another?
are you in any pain? I wouldn’t worry it’s not going to be anything to worry about. Most dental infections are resolved easily - and you are going back for a filling soon?
