ECG results (ED)

Just a quick one. My young adult son has an ED. About three weeks ago, he had an ECG at his first appointment with the ED team. The results were 'abnormal', stating bradycardia and 'possible lateral myocardial infarction'. The person who took the ECG said they would send the results to my son's GP.

My son expected the GP to call to discuss/explain the results from the ECG. However, after a week and a half, nothing had happened, so my son rang the surgery. He was told to contact the MH team again. He contacted them and they said they would e-mail the person who is supposed to be my son's 'care coordinator'. Another week and a half has passed, and no-one has got back to my son.

I assume the results are nothing to worry about (hence the lack of contact), but I am no expert, and my son is still engaging in behaviour that could put strain on his heart (bulimia nervosa).

I will be contacting the surgery myself tomorrow (I have permission to call on my son's behalf, although I think he needs to be there if any information is released). However, I would just like some reassurance, possibly from someone who is a bit more familiar with ECG results, that this abnormal reading is nothing to be concerned about.

Bradycardia is a slower heart rate. Obviously without the actual ECG I couldn't tell you more than that.
An MI is a heart attack, where the oxygen/blood supply has been blocked somewhere. That sounds dramatic I know.
Best to her your son to speak with his GP.

Thank you. I am going to make sure the GP is contacted tomorrow.

Just a quick update. My son had an appointment with his mental health worker, yesterday. There had been a slight delay because the ECG results and blood test results needed to be discussed with the medical staff.

He has experienced lateral myocardial infarction and he has hyperthyroidism, slight anaemia and a low level of white blood cells.

Whilst this is concerning, the specialists state that all these conditions can be attributed to my son's ED.

He will have regular blood tests and another ECG (to be arranged), and very significantly, he has weekly appointments with the mental health worker, to work on his mental health issues. The MH worker is also going to contact me, so I can support my son more effectively at home.
