Our whole family (2 adults+2teens) have come out in hives, very itchy and annoying!

No Idea what's caused it, we haven't changed anything like laundry liquid (still use ecover), haven't changed our diet.
The worst affected area for everyone is the feet and ankles, see photos of me, Dad, but we have the odd hive in other parts of the body as well.
We've tried antihistamines to no avail.
The weather hasn't even been particularly hot for the last month.
Any suggestions/advice?

How have you had these for more than a month and not done anything?

Keykat · 22/07/2023 17:26

This is why I don't have pets. My sister has two cats, and although their flea treatments are up to date, I always find myself scratching automatically when in her house even though there is nothing that needs scratching!

Boredofmyguts · 22/07/2023 18:16

Def fleas! They go for feet/ankles.

But OP uses Advocate, not Advantage...

Oops sorry I meant Advocate is now a no too (stopped using Advantage years ago). We were given NexGuard this visit.

TropicalTrama · 22/07/2023 18:37

Also there’s a high margin of error with flea treatments because cats are wriggly buggers and if you get the fur not the skin it isn’t as effective. I’d bet money on OP having fleas unfortunately.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 22/07/2023 19:15

Flea treatments are not always effective. (Fleas adapt.)

They do look like flea bites and they are in the right places.

HivesChives · 22/07/2023 21:33

I setup a flea trap as suggested and we have caught some ☹️.
What is the best treatment for the cat if advocate doesn't work?

And how many cans of indorex do we need for a whole house?

Bravecto is good (from the vet) and lasts 3 months

I used a can a room but that may have been overkill Grin

However by the time you have sprayed all the soft furnishings, all the skirting boards and any other random nooks and crannies, a can has gone.

For the cat you want Bravecto from the vet.

HivesChives · 22/07/2023 23:09

Did one round of indorex do or did you have to repeat the process?

OP posts:
AnnaMagnani · 22/07/2023 23:20

One was enough. Possibly because everything was drowned in the stuff I may have gone overboard

Cat is helpfully allergic to fleas so if ever there is a repeat performance he will tip us off early on now we know what to look for.

PriamFarrl · 22/07/2023 23:43

Glad you worked out what it is, and although annoying fleas aren’t a serious health issue like this could have been.

Well at least you know what it is now! I’d call the vet re flea treatment first thing tomorrow and see what they suggest. It’s years ago but I think we did a can of indorex per room, that was probably overkill though since we caught it very early before any of us had a single bite (white cat so easy to spot the flea dust).

Skulldrudgery · 23/07/2023 09:50

One round should do, and I think it was 2 cans for our 4 bed house
