Thyroid cancer?

Chocolatebuttonanyone · 18/07/2023 20:10

I have a nodule on my thyroid. Just been seen under a 2 week wait and there is a 20% chance its cancer.
Shit shit shit.
I know that means 80 percent that its not, but I probably need a hemithyroidectomy anyway.
I cant deal with this right now. I dont know what to do.

Oh how strange @WhatHaveIDone21. I wonder how it can vary so much. Thanks for sharing though

Stillwaitingallyear · 05/12/2023 21:18

I didn't have the orange stuff either and had a small plaster which I took off when I got home. The FNA isn't pleasant but it's honestly fine, just a weird sensation. I got small bruises each time but only very small. My results always took over 2 weeks, the worst was 6. I didn't mind too much as I just carried on as usual but I did mind turning up for appointments only to be told they had no results.

They've already booked me in for next year 🙄 I was surprised when I got the text but I'm forgetting about it for now. I have a feeling FNAs are going to become a regular test for me so I'll just stick them on the calendar like any other appointment.

stresshead38 · 06/12/2023 16:37

Oh wow, that's a lot of notice for the next appointment! But yeah, forget about it now and enjoy Christmas!

I hope I can get away with just a small bruise and a plaster 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Had my scan and biopsy this morning. They agreed with the u3 grading. Took 2 samples to try to avoid an indeterminate result. The first was completely fine, hardly felt it. The second sample was more painful, and it is actually still a bit sore now. No yellow dye, and only a small round plaster for me.

The radiographer said 1-2 weeks for results which seems quick, but the ENT consultant last week said 'around 2 weeks'... so we shall see

NoddyTheNodule · 07/12/2023 14:50

I'm sorry it was painful @stresshead38 but yay (small mercies!) for not needing the scarf!

stresshead38 · 07/12/2023 18:02

Definite bonus! It's sore when I cough or yawn. Hoping this doesn't last too long

Stillwaitingallyear · 07/12/2023 20:31

Glad it's done @stresshead38 I did have a little tenderness too but it didn't last long, hope yours is similar. I really hope your results are quick, I'll keep my fingers crossed. How are you feeling in yourself?

stomachameleon · 07/12/2023 20:34

@stresshead38 just feels a bit odd doesn't it? I promise it goes fast. Fingers crossed it's done quick.

stresshead38 · 07/12/2023 20:43

It's a weird feeling. I'm not really sure how to describe it!

@Stillwaitingallyear I'm ok. The doctor was really reassuring and explained everything so much better than the RNT consultant had. I feel informed, and ready for whatever they tell me.

I would like it to be after Christmas though if it's going to be bad news.

stresshead38 · 13/12/2023 21:47

@NoddyTheNodule any news for you yet? C

NoddyTheNodule · 13/12/2023 21:54

stresshead38 · 13/12/2023 21:47

@NoddyTheNodule any news for you yet? C

Nope. I've spoken to the consultant's secretary a couple of times since he should have been back from holiday, and just keep getting the same line - we'll contact you when results are in and there's an appointment available.

It will be 4 weeks on Monday since the biopsy. If I've not heard anything by the middle of next week, I wo6ask my GP to chase it up as I'm getting nowhere.

stresshead38 · 13/12/2023 22:10

Wow, it might not be urgent to them, but do they not realise how anxious people will be to know what's happening in their bodies?!

NoddyTheNodule · 13/12/2023 22:29

I know, I'm trying not to get too wound up about it, there are bigger emergencies in the NHS at the moment.

Dare I ask if you've heard anything?@stresshead38@stresshead38

stresshead38 · 13/12/2023 22:37

No nothing yet, it's only been 6 days though!

stomachameleon · 14/12/2023 14:06

Am having operation. Seeing surgeon in London on 3/1. Then radioiodine again

NoddyTheNodule · 14/12/2023 14:51

I'm sorry it's another surgery @stomachameleon but I am pleased that it seems to be happening relatively quickly for you. How are you feeling?

stomachameleon · 14/12/2023 14:53

Ok I think. Not looking for forward to it but
Will be relieved when it's all over.
Thyroglobulin was still high which is indicating there is more to treat.

stresshead38 · 14/12/2023 16:00

Oh @stomachameleon sorry to hear that.
Is thyroglobulin an indication of thyroid cancer? Sorry for my ignorance, I've only had TSH level tested with regard to mine.

stomachameleon · 14/12/2023 16:45

As far as I know... its a test to stimulate the tissue that's left and it's a tumour marker. High levels indicate metastatic or reoccurring disease. Mine will be linked to the lymph nodes in the right hand side. As I have no thyroid left. At least that's what she said.

poetryandwine · 14/12/2023 17:28

Oh, @stomachameleon I am sorry to hear this. But at least glad that you will be dealt with reasonably quickly

stresshead38 · 14/12/2023 21:50

Oh ok, I see. So what are they removing? Those lymph nodes? Presumably they can't remove the thyroid bed.... or can they?

stomachameleon · 14/12/2023 22:41

It's the lymph nodes. The only concern I have is that they warned me last time they may have to break my sternum to remove them. They removed some so I assume they didn't take out enough.
I am just second guessing though until I see him.
I struggled last time mentally so not looking forward to it but going to try and forget about it over Christmas. It will soon come round.

stomachameleon · 14/12/2023 22:43

The oncologist kept asking me if I am ok? Makes me think I am missing something. Daft really because you always think of things you should have asked afterwards.

stresshead38 · 15/12/2023 06:36

Yes, definitely try to put it out your mind until after Christmas. I find the first couple of days after any medical appointment the hardest because it's so fresh, but as the days go on you can put it to the back of your mind and get on with other things again.

I imagine being told cancer hasn't all gone is quite a shock, and I'm sure that's why he was asking if you were ok. Xx

stomachameleon · 15/12/2023 11:50

Thanks @stresshead38 x
