I have had 'borderline' high blood pressure all my adult life , not high enough to go on medication to be controlled by diet etc (In fact it goes down best when pregnant..but this isn't ideal!!)..I cannot have the combination pill, been refused the Minera Coil and the mini pill makes me bleed continously ...DP is on the waiting list for the snip but isn't over keen (plus it could be a looooong waiting list) ...so any of you out there happily using a bog standard non hormone coil or anything else ('cept condoms)

I don't know what mini pills you have tried in the past, but there is one called cerazette which causes far fewer bleeding problems than the others.

As you mentioned, a copper coil would be OK. You could also consider an implant, but I would advise a trial of cerazette for 3 months to make sure you could tolerate the hormones. Why have you been advised that you can't have a mirena?

was advised not to have the mirena coil because the hormones could have adverse affects on my blood pressure, but a nurse has since said that the hormones are the same as in Mini Pill so it shouldn't make any odds....thinking maybe I should go back to doctors or maybe to a family planning clinic..I was on Cerazette so is that the best one or is it worth asking to try another brand?

Mirena should have no effect on your BP, as it doen't have oestrogen in it.

Cerazette is the most convenient brand of mini pill to use because of the 12 hour window thing, however you may get on better with a more traditional one (e.g. noriday, brevinor)- may be worth a go for a couple of months. AT least you can stop it quickly if doesn't suit.

Unfortunately, all methods that have progesterones in them make irregular or heavy bleeding a possibility- the problem is you can't predict who will have what! The copper coil can also increase your chances of heavier periods. There may be no 'perfect' solution for you until your dp gets snipped, so you may have to compromise on something.

A chat with your GP or FPC sounds like a sensible suggestion. You never know, the snip appointment may come through fairly quickly!

Forgot to add, there is also depo-provera (the injection) which lasts for 3 months at a time and is reversible. Its also a progesterone-only method, but more likely to induce no periods for the time its used (which in your case sounds like it would only be a short while)
