Anyone had a full upper or lower denture since age 40ish or younger? Please could you tell me about it?

Hi, I'm almost 40 and, thanks partly to parental neglect, partly to a condition which wasn't recognised until way too late and then completely ignored and partly to my own self neglect, my teeth are basically horrendous and on extremely borrowed time. I'm doing what I can to prolong my teeth but can only afford an NHS dentist and mine isn't great tbh. I'm facing having at least a lower full or nearly full denture in the near future.

I've tried to talk to my dentist about the options/future as I lose another tooth at a time (have virtually nothing at the lower back now and the front is not looking good) but she won't discuss it and when I mentioned dentures she just said "urgh, dentures, nasty things" and carried on. I'd love to try someone else but in this day and age I'm lucky to have a dentist!

Has anyone had to have a full denture from a relatively early age that can tell me what it's like? I don't expect "sunshine and rainbows" stories but having no idea at all what having a denture is like is worrying me more than maybe horror stories would.

I'm sorry, I've only just seen this. I have a full top denture and am looking at getting a bottom plate too, my front bottom tooth fell out the other day thanks to an incident at work.

I've had my top plate for about 5 years, I still don't like eating with it in, but that could just be me. It does make me feel more confident though, I don't have to hide my mouth all the time, and can actually smile properly now. There is no way I could afford implants so this is the best thing for me at the moment. I do have to use an adhesive because my gums are buggered too. I blame my DM personally, she didn't think dental health was important and so by the time I was an adult the damage was already done.
