I am trying to look it up but I am still not sure.

So I have a UTI which is E Coli. It's not going away properly and so I asked my GP to show me the results that came back from the lab from when I sent my sample.

So... It's resistant to...

Ampicillin / Amoxicillin
Trimethoprim
Fluoroquinolones

But it is susceptible to...

Aminoglycosides
Carbapenems
Third Generation Cephalosporins only
Extended Spectrum Penicillins / Beta Lactamase Inhibitors
Fosfomycin
Nitrofurantoin

I got myself into a google hole about antibiotic resistance.

Does this mean it is "EBSL" E Coli, or not ??

I've taken the Nitrofurantoin for nearly the whole 10 day course and still have some symptoms, including slight kidney pain which has started. Although much better than I was. Do I need to ask for another of the above??

Thanks!!

It's ESBL exstended spectrum beta lactamase.

I thought cephalosporins were ineffective against ESBL.

it's an extended spectrum beta lactamase secreting E.coli. If you still have symptoms at the end of the course then yes you should speak to your doctor again.

Yeah the kidney pain is worse this morning 😞😞. Going to try the doctor again, hopefully they can give me something it's not resistant to.

This is worrying, cause I'm very prone to UTIs, despite doing everything possible to avoid them, and this resistance thing is concerning.
