Recurrant sinusitis, eye twitch and astigmatism

I've have recurrant sinusitis for the last two years. Not always infections but I haven't gone more than a 5 days without sinus pain in my left cheek and a bad sinus headache. Around the same time this started I have a twitch in my left eye. Sometimes it twitches a few times in a minute. Sometimes it will twitch a couple times a day.

I've always had astigmatism in both my eyes but in the last 2 years it has got considerably worse in the left eye so much so that it wasn't advisable for me to change my prescription as much as it is needed. As there was such a big change it would be too difficult to adjust to the new glasses without making my dizzy.

It's only just occurred to me that all this started around the same time and is all on my left.

Could they be linked? Any ideas on what's going on?

Thank you

Anyone?

I thought I'd reply and I don't want to alarm you, but I think it might be helpful if you asked for a CT scan. I have a couple of meningioma brain tumours, they're not cancerous or immediately life threatening, however depending where they are they can cause vision changes and eye twitching as symptoms. The optician may possibly be able to see swollen optic nerves?
Anyway I think it would be worth a scan, hopefully it's something else entirely.

Thank you @Mistymountain last time I spoke to my GP about my sinuses (I didn't mention my eye twitching or the astigmatism this particular time) he said he would refer me for an x-ray on my sinuses. Do you think that is the same a CT scan?

I'll recently had an optician app and I had some sort of extra test but I think that was to check my retinas since I have family history of detached retinas. I better call them and ask exactly what they tested for.

Hi Rainbow I'm not a doctor, just a patient, but I'm not sure that an xray of the sinuses would necessarily cover all the areas you'd need to fully rule out the tumour aspect (although it may show up something) A brain CT would be the best option for that, perhaps you should discuss it with the GP, meningiomas are not that rare really.

OK thank you. How did you suspect yours?

Hi don t want to divert the thread but my eye always twitches when i have infection in sinuses ... has done for decades and nothing unpleasant to report

RainbowZebraaaa · 14/07/2023 19:35

@keeptalkinghappytalk yeah I always just assumed the twitch was stress related or eye strain related and the recurrent sinus issues just exasperated it all.

It was only the day that I posted that I wondered if the astigmatism could in some way be related to it all. 🤷‍♀️

Hi Rainbow I was suffering from lack of balance and vertigo. After a year the GP referred me for a CT scan, which revealed a 5 cm tumour.
I'm not saying your problem is likely to be the same, I'm just suggesting that it's a possibility that could be ruled out.

RainbowZebraaaa · 15/07/2023 09:35

@Mistymountain yes I appreciate you sharing, I understand you're not telling me what mine is...if only it was that easy! 😊

That sounds so scarey to fing out about a tumour that size. How did they treat it?

It was a shock. I had an operation to remove it in 2018, because it was growing. Unfortunately it was one of the 10%, which are grade 2 (still not cancerous though) and I was unlucky again in that it's recurred - this time as 2 small nodules, so I have 6 monthly scans to monitor their growth. It's not great, but it's not the end of the world.
Some people never need an operation, they just have annual scans to keep an eye on things.
