ADHD private assessment for adult

I have suspected for a while that my adult son has ADHD. We talked a lot about it and the impact it’s having on his life and he’s agreed to see a doctor for assessment. I have some private health cover through work so would like to use that to speed the process up. How do I go about finding somewhere reputable? I’ve googled and there’s loads of options but i don’t know how to choose and I don’t know anyone to ask for a recommendation.

Im in the North West.

Be prepared for the cost. They have really risen in price. ADHD Direct in Scotland are very good and the price has risen from £900 to £1100.

They do online appointments as well which could work for you but they aren't any cheaper!!

Thank you, I’ll check that out. I’m not in Scotland but remote might work.
the cost has prompted this thread mostly. There’s such a wide variation from £150 to over £1000 and I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Obviously I’d rather pay less, but not if it’s something I can’t take back to the GP.

I have a cash back plan so would cover possibly an Italian consultation.

Recently been sorting this out for my son. I called a few places and the one that impressed me the most was I straker, based in Liverpool and London. Unlike a lot of places they prefer in person assessments instead of via web cam. Initial assessment is £395 and then you get a diagnosis 2-4 weeks later after they have collated the questionnaire and assessment info. After that you are free to just walk away with the diagnosis. Should you choose the medication titration and counselling they are combined for a sum off £100 per appointment and the medication bit lasts around 15 minutes and the counselling around 45. I was told most people that want medication have a minimum of 4 appointments to get settled and then it goes to the GP for a shared care agreement ( if the gp agrees). So a minimum of £800 plus I imagine you have to pay the costs of medication as it's a private prescription?

From our experience it's worth following both routes if you need an assessment/diagnosis for education/work purposes fairly urgently.
Request an assessment through your GP and do a private assessment if you can afford one.
The major issue is that if you rely on the private assessment only then your son will have to pay for private prescriptions for meds as a private diagnosis is not accepted by the NHS although it does support a case for an NHS assessment. My DS (25) uses his private diagnosis to give himself disability protection at work and negotiate better working conditions but has chosen not to continue with medication due to the cost and side effects.
My youngest DC was referred for an NHS assessment via their clinical psychologist (who did the initial assessment) and they had a full diagnosis late last year which was done all online. They have opted for ADHD meds and is doing much better and now qualifies for extra help/mentoring at college.

Thank you all.

Liverpool is doable, and my health scheme should cover the bulk of the cost, so I shall give them a call.
