Bedwetting

At what frequency should I be concerned about my older teen bed wetting?

DS is almost 19. Twice in the last year or so, he has wet the bed.

Last time was two weeks ago. He said he was dreaming of swimming at the time.

This has also happened once when he was extremely drunk, but I wrote that off as alcohol related and obviously had a separate chat about that.

For the two sober occasions, should I be encouraging him to see his GP?

I wouldnt be too worried yet and would follow your sons lead.
How upset is he about it? If he wants to chat to GP then let him

I think a dr would say
Bedwetting after heavy alcohol consumption: OK, not that unusual
Bedwetting while dreaming about being in a pool : again it happens, occasioanally
Just having a random bedwetting accident: again something that can happen to anyone. (most people probably wouldnt mention it to anyone) and I dont think a dr would be too worried about a one off accident.

What i would do is suggest going to a dr if it starts happening more frequently.

And make sure there is a really good waterproof mattress protector on the bed in case it happens again.

I wouldnt mention it unless your DS chooses to talk to you about it.

Thank you @changedmynam

Having seen the alcohol related bed wetting threads over the last few days, and some suggestions for GP intervention if not alcohol related, I was worrying that I was being too relaxed about it. I haven't mentioned it to DS since it happened.

He doesn't seem worried and has told me quite openly both times.

Alcohol related one wouldn't worry me at all.

Any other occasion at 19 years old would warrant an immediate doctor's appointment, unless there was obvious psychological trauma like a recent death of someone close, being a victim of serious crime or something like that.

Slightly embarrassing share but I had this happen to me out of the blue in my mid twenties; twice in the space of a few months I think

Doctors investigation turned up nothing and it hasn't happened since (going on what, 7 years) so don't panic but it would be best practice to get it checked out.

Thanks for the replies, and for sharing personal experiences.

Can I ask how it was investigated @Rosecat22?

Sure! They just took a urine sample, that was all. Warranted no further investigation based on those results, was told to come back if it kept happening
