Is spotty, pimply nappy rash always thrush? DD seems to have recurrent problem

DD (14 mo) first had a bout of nappy thrush a few months ago-- took her to the GP and was prescribed Canesten, which cleared it up. Since then she seems to have had it every few weeks or so (usually flares up if she's done an acidic poo) which I treat with the Canesten. This usually clears it up within a few days and then I continue it for a week as per the GP's original instructions. Is this recurrent thrush and is there anything I can do to prevent it? I'm also worried that using so much Canesten may not be too good for dd.

Try changing your brand of nappies if disposables, or washing powder if not. DD (who is now 13) was allergic to disposables her nappy rash was indescribable.

Any recommendations? She's in Pampers mostly at the mo'. Though she's fine in between flareups.

Terry nappies (or what ever they call them now) Huggies, Tesco own brand. Anything really except Pampers as it sounds to me as if that could be the problem.

my dd's nappy rash (and excema) flare up really badly when she's teething. I jump on them with creams but it doesn't really help, then as soon as the teeth are through it clears up on its own. thought i'd mention it in case it fits with your dd. hth

DD (also 14 months) had horrendous nappy rash a couple of weeks ago. Diagnosed as fungal initially (treated with daktacort) but she also ended up on oral antibiotics for a suspected bacterial infection also.

Once bacterial sores had gone 3rd(!) GP suggested attacking with masses of sudocreme. Idea being to create a barrier to allow the skin to heal. It worked within a day or two and I am now a convert to sudocreme (couldn't stand the stuff before!)

pampers used to give ds nappy rash, i now use tesco own. a friends gave me some pampers a few weeks ago, her ds is now potty trained, i used them for 1 day on ds, and low and behold, he got nappy rash again, switched back to tesco's, and it cleared up.

Thanks all, I've bought some Tesco nappies. Good point about teething Scoobi, she does have some new ones coming on the bottom.

BarbaraWoodhouse, if you're still around, do you use the sudocrem all the time or just when your dd's rash flares up?

It's only been a couple of weeks since DD's rash cleared and I have been using sudocrem since then but not plastering it on in the same way that I did when the rash was there. Touch wood it's completely gone now, you can still see the marks where it was though, poor thing.

I don't think teething was the culprit this time but we have had nappy rash at teething time before, along with EVIL smelling poos

Hope your DD improves soon.
