ds (10m) took a tumble.

Neither of us saw it - just heard the thump and the howls. Within about 5mins was smiling, laughing, playing with his toys as normal. Went to bed as normal (ie, fighting it every step of the way) about 45mins later.

Only 4 stairs, carpeted and rug+carpet at the bottom, but he has a red mark over his eyebrow .

Apart from godawful case of the guilts, do we need to check him/look for anything special over next few hours?

Nope - I would just write it off as an accident. If he is happy/alert etc I would just keep checking on him every half hour.

My DS is CONSTANTLY banging his head - he is a bull in a china shop!!

oh, phd - tis awful when they hurt themselves.

He'll be fine, I'm sure. It doesn't sound like he fell a huge distance, and they do tend to bounce at that age.

Now he's getting to the age where you'll be lucky if you ever see him without a bruise.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 24/02/2008 21:22

thanks luvaduck.

he is asleep as usual (migrating round the cot)

squonky it was horrid seeing his little body in sleepsuit ker-splat at the bottom of the stairs . think it is only just starting to get to me, at the time I was much calmer.

I think you're probably injured more than him - emotionally
I can't imagine he hurt himself at all apart from maybe a slight bump and a bit of a shock, poor lamb. If he didn't knock himself out then very unlikely he did any damage and the distance you describe plus carpeting doesn't ring alarm bells. Keep an eye on him for the next 24hrs, but if he's his usual self then just give him a big cuddle and don't worry x

fryalot · 24/02/2008 21:24

it will definitely kick in soon and you will be a gibbering wreck. This doesn't matter - it's how you cope at the time that is important, and it sounds like you coped absolutely wonderfully.

scottishmummy · 24/02/2008 21:30

please dont beat yourself uo about this, it was unfortunate accident.

that in no way is a reflection upon your parenting skills - the fact you are anxious/worried is indicative that it matters
