New (noticed 2 weeks ago) freckle. 3mm across. Not itchy or weepy. Looks deep blue / purple in RL. Raised by 1mm. Tiny full stop size one of same colour just appeared an inch above.
Is it worth bothering GP? (3 wks for appt around here, if lucky)

Yes, get it checked. Especially if it’s just appeared. And insist on a biopsy. Don’t want to be scaremonger but some skin cancers are really dangerous.

Miekle · 09/07/2023 14:41

If it's unusual for you to get a new (raised) freckle, yes I would.
I get multiple new freckles every year, but they're never raised.
Most likely harmless but if not so much easier to sort out if you get it early. I wouldn't worry too much about 3 weeks wait for the appointment though.

medianewbie · 09/07/2023 14:42

Thanks @Katesyd
My GPS are pretty slow. I've had a Colonoscopy for a positive Fit test & a breast cancer investigation over the last 18m & both took months so I know they're really slow. Unlikely to take me seriously if I go back a 3rd time (tho 1st was routine screen & 2nd GP felt a lump but went on hols & forgot to refer)

I don't want to worry you unduly but look up nodular melanoma. If you think it fits then say that to the gp reception and ask to send photos. That type of melanoma grows very quickly so if it is then you shouldn't wait 3 weeks. I don't want to scare you and it probably isn't but best to err on the side of caution.

SaltyCrisps · 09/07/2023 16:50

Yes, definitely. Ring and tell the receptionist that you need a face-to-face appointment ASAP, or if they say that will take ages a phone appointment with the opportunity to send a photo in advance.

Rosecat22 · 09/07/2023 17:55

If you GP are shit then you can go to a Boots skin clinic that will do mole checks which can flag potential skin cancers. Should they flag it you can use this as ammo to get a faster appointment. I would either do that asap or check out private GPs/ dermatologists near you. For a £100-200 you could have an appointment pretty sharpish. I would recommend getting it checked out asap

MargaretThursday · 09/07/2023 18:54

I've had a few checked out at the GP and that's one I would definitely go for checking.
For my GP it's a quick phone call appointment, and send a photo, then they refer under 2ww to the dermatologist, who checks that and any other moles while they're in there.

tothelefttotheleft · 09/07/2023 18:55

Can you not join a new doctors surgery?

How can you trust them when they've behaved so badly?

YukoandHiro · 09/07/2023 18:56

I have a back covered in moles and I get them checked yearly and have a lot that look a bit like that BUT none of this is new for me and this is new for you. So yes I would

Caramellois · 09/07/2023 19:05

I live in a country with the highest or second highest melanoma rate in the world. I would have that looked at. I would want it out and biopsied as well because most GPs are really quite hopeless with identifying skin cancers. I strip down to my underwear on a regular basis while a dermatologist scans me from head to toe. Sometimes even they can't tell just by looking and I have had multiple moles cut out and checked. Luckily they have all been good even the dark suspicious looking ones but the earlier the better is my view.

@totothelefttotheleft
I'm really rural & it's the only surgery for 15miles. Neighbouring surgeries not accepting new patients when I last asked (about 5 years ago mind!)

Is it speed of growth rather than the appearance that needs checked?
Just thinking it may have been there longer & I only just noticed it ? (I'm not the most observant person, as I have two disabled kids so I just shower, stick on a clean t-shirt & jeans & pay no more attention than that usually!)

I literally just came on here to ask the same question and yours was the first post I saw!

Mine appeared a couple of weeks ago and I don’t know whether to go docs or not. Feels a bit dramatic when it’s something so small!

I think I'll have to go privately.
Finally saw GP yesterday. Said: 'oh it's really small, probably just a blood blister. Come back in a month if you're still worried'. I think she was having a bad day as the other thing I asked for: a re referral to Ortho about (a change in my right foot, that's had 3 surgeries in past, a break & has a large heel spur) was met with: ' you need to try Boots for an insole - I need them now when I walk my dogs'. I just goggled at her ! She reluctantly agreed I could self refer to Podiatry but absolutely refused to refer me to Ortho. (I've had custom I soles from Podiatry before & they are not effective enough to balance out the negative effects). She's head of practice too. I can complain but exH did that & was deregistered. Pah !!!

They could be Campbell de Morgan spots, I have loads on my torso. They are benign.

But best to have them checked out.

GC12345 · 30/09/2023 07:33

Hi, I have something similar. Did you get any answers @Poorlysister

GC12345 · 30/09/2023 08:10

medianewbie · 30/09/2023 08:26
