If I was to do pilates would I lose my "mummy tummy"? Am particularly unhappy about the bit above my tummy button that used to be firm but now just hangs over the top of my trousers. Has anyone who has had a saggy top tummy managed to lose it? Inspiration required please. Or shall I just commit to getting older and saggier and chill out about it?

lol Maybe the Pilates is just a "cover up" for what really goes on under the cover of darkness

No, the reason I asked is that my pilates instructor has recently set up a studio over in Evesham which (I think) has all the eqipment. Wondered if it was the same one but its not

I love love love Pilates - have done it on and off for years. Just started doing my Pilates for Pregnancy DVD as SPD is flaring up again, and after only a few sessions I can SEE my abdominals toning up, even though 6 months pregnant! And talulatreefrog, whenever I do it the visible effect for me starts at my top tummy, exactly the bit you describe, although all the work is going on lower down. In fact this thread has inspired me to get in touch with a local teacher to see if I can get a consultation - will have to wait and see how she'll feel about working with a fairly pregnant lady though!

Systemaddict I am going to have to give it a go. I love the idea of having a flat tum again but all I want to do is sit on the sofa and eat crap. I can't believe that you are going to do it even when you're fairly pregnant, very motivated. I am very impressed and am clenching my core muscles as I reach for the biscuit tin.

Absolutely brilliant for hip and back pain - if I don't go one week, I really suffer the next.
But I still have a mummy tummy, despite doing it for 18 months now.

If you're a bit of a lazy arse you will hopefully find this quite good exercise, I have rubbish stamina and don't much like getting sweaty and very out of breath, Pilates is just right for me.

I've done Pilates before, but recently found a great new mat work class in Ealing! Pilates Shape-and-Relax at St Andrews Church W5, very convenient for me as close to home, but since I’ve discovered it I’d even travel further! I feel fitter, my back stronger, my abs flatter, and after each class I get this great feeling of new energy. Their website www.pilates-shapeandrelax.com and I would like to recommend the class to anyone with experience or without, also suitable for all ages. Hope this helps!
