Embarrassing...but here goes. Have had itchy bottom for two weeks now and cannot figure out why! Not worms - checked at night plus took Ovex just in case. Not thrush - tried canesten. What else. Piles? I have no pain at all just itch inside. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've had a similar thing for aaaaaaaages. Kept getting fobbed off by the docs and given thrush cream. Finally saw a different doc and got pile cream (I can feel teeny bumps in there) but still no joy!

Kookie have you recently given birth?? I had the same after dd was born, backside felt strange "up there" and was v. itchy. Bought some piles cream from the chemist which sorted it. GP was very dismissive at my 6 weeks check - more or less said, tough, nothing you can do, what do you expect you've just had a baby!!! Luckily mine was obviously not serious or else i'd have gone back and pushed for a referral. All was ok again within a few weeks.

Countryhousehotel, no I haven't given birth recently. My youngest is 16 months. I assume however from what you said about your experience, that the itching was from piles. Is that possible? How common is it to have piles without pain, but with itching? Ohtheindignity, poor you, that sounds really annoying. Can this kind of thing really go on indefinitely?

I had no pain as such, just lots of itching, and a feeling that something wasn't right down there iykwim especially during and after doing number 2s...sorry if tmi.... Managed to have a look in a mirror (not easy, let me tell you!) and could see that there were some small bumps and it just looked a bit red and sore....as I said, mine was clearly a mild case....no issues with it for way over a year now, my dd is 19 months and it was really only for the first few weeks after she was born that it troubled me. The main symptom was terrible itching.

I get it too. I possibly still have a pile, I had one about 20+ years ago but it wasnt bad enough to do anything but have ointment on.

Two things that make it worse:

being hot in bed (eg high tog quilt etc)

Eating wholemeal or Linseed bread. I call it itchy bum bread now.

Things that make it better:

A warm (not hot) shower

a cool flannel

A bland cream like sudocrem
