Hello
i am realllly unfit and decided this porko needs to get walking. What do you recommend for trainers - mine are too plimsoll type and don’t support feet properly. Maybe up to £150 but really want something super light and airy. I’m of an age that style is not that imperative !

Strange question maybe, but for what kind of walking? Fast, pavement pounding? Working up to running? Strolling with the dog? Walking on country footpaths and trails?

I’m quite big, and I wear running trainers for walking - nice and light and lots of padding. I’m currently wearing ASICS Gel excite 9s - they’re fab.

Good luck!

I have Merrell walking shoes, love them.

Look at Hoka. My husband recently invested in some as he wanted something supportive whilst on long days out. He wears these purely to walk in; and has separate shoes for running.

I live in my Merrell walking boots for most of the year but struggle with them in the very hot weather. What do you wear in the hot weather that's as good?

Any ailments?
My favourite pair of shoes for walking - ever and by far - are Nike Pegasus trail running shoes with goretex
Light, flexible and good cushioning- pic attached

I had merril walking shoes (£120-150ish) and gave them to my sister - after a 10k walk, my back was so jolted by the lack of cushioning that I was really miserable and bad tempered. Others like them and so it depends on your needs

The ones I like have been reduced now as you see but I have walked so far in them that I don't care at all

I have these and they are really supportive. I struggle with Achilles tendinitis and these have really helped. www.runnorthwest.co.uk/products/brooks-w-adrenaline-gts-22-navy-yucca-pink

I have wide feet and also need good arch support. The only ones I've found that fit well and are comfortable on long walks are Skechers GoWalk. I've tried lots of others, including Merrells (which my partner loves, but don't work for me). A friend has recommended Hokas, which I'm thinking of trying. I think footwear is so personal that you need to go to an actual shop and try things on.

I have Merrell approach type shoes which I wear year round for walking the dog in muddy fields they are lovely and supportive from day one and almost change your posture (you feel straighter). Mine are Moab something they have different versions. Try a pair in the shop and see how they feel.

I also have a pair of Brooks Ghost running trainers. These are ancient but very comfortable and cushioned (but I only wear them on dry days as they are such a lovely colour) great for walking fast and as i have kept them clean I wear them on long shopping trips walking around new cities as I can’t stand uncomfortable feet.

I love sketchers they have great memory foam they are very comfortable I never buy anything else
I wear all day in work and when I go for walks with my dog can walk miles and no foot pain

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/07/2023 19:28

Pavement walking - running trainers. I picked up some Nike Pegasus ones cheap a few years ago in America and they've lasted brilliantly.

For muddy trails, hills etc. I prefer proper outdoor trainers. I have some from north face that have lasted an age, DH likes Merrills though. I don't think north face that well rated these day for outdoor wear, it seems to be more fashion-y, but I can't complain about mine.
