Symptoms of tonsillitus in a three year old?

My dd has just got over having chicken pox and this afternoon has started to complain of a headache and says that her mouth hurts. I can't see inside her throat as she is saying it hurts too much to open it. She has got a temperature and is very drowsy, she has just asked to go to bed, which is very unlike her. I suffered dreadful tonsillitus throughout my teens and until last year when I finally had my tonsils out, but I have no experience of having it so young. I feel so sorry for her, it has been one bug after another this month and it really seems to be knocking her for six

ds2 is 3 and had it this week. he was hot, very sleepy and had golf balls either side of his jaw . mostly jst hot and sleepy though, very thirsty but didnt want food, very unusual for him. He has had anti-b's for 7 days and is now fine.

raging temperatures - sweats the lot plus refusal to eat. Temperature returning as soon as the calpol and/or ibuprofen wears off and/or not controlling the temperature properly.

I didn't realise for about 3 days no outwardly showing golf balls but obviously they were very infected - she slept loads

Poor DD sounds tough. Stupid question but have you given her a good dose of calpol and ibruprofen ? It could be tonsilitis but could also be secondary infection of chicken px. Try to get her to drink a good idea is ice lollies as will also numb the pain good luck

Ds1 was hospitalised with it last month as he refused to eat or drink anything for 5 days and ended up severely dehydrated. At one point we were forcing water down him and he was screaming with the pain.
No other symptons apart from that and a very high temperature of 102 degrees. After 4 days in hospital he came home, was better, then caught it again a week later. After a 2nd course of anti biotics it finally went.

Naughtymummy I have given her some Calpol and she is now in bed- not asleep but just lying there looking very sorry for herself. I haven't heard about secondary infections. It was quite big outbreak, with about 20 children at her nursery off at the same time, and I know one of her friends is now sick with an ear and chest infection, so is this quite common after chickenpox? She seemed to get off quite lightly, with only a very few spots and no itching, but the week before the spots showed she was very poorly.

chicken pox runs you down so your immunity is compromised to I presume you are then more vunerable to getting an infection or picking up another virus.

Dd2 ended up in hospital with her chicken pox (11 months old) - she was covered in spots and didn't sleep for 3 days solid, turned out when they finally checked her properly (12 hours after admittant
ce and after being started on antiviral drugs!) that she also had an ear infection...........at least we got our own room though and I got a bed to sleep in!

screaming. My 3 yo had it last week and went to hospital. Week of ant-b's and she's now fine.
No temp though (but kids with CP rarely get temps)
