What exactly causes abfractions (notches in teeth by gum line)??

I’m very lucky to be an NHS patient at a Bupa dental surgery and have annual checkups (my dentist was so happy with my teeth he changed me from 6-monthly to annual checks) I might try to make an appointment to discuss this but I know they are verrry busy. But my dentist is always happy with my teeth, says I’m doing a good job cleaning them, etc.
I eat a good diet, floss, use a sonic brush to avoid excess pressure brushing, I wait at least 30 mins after eating before brushing so I don’t wear the enamel, I use a non abrasive toothpaste that claims to help rebuild enamel…
and yet a have a handful of teeth with mild gum recession and to my horror I’ve noticed abfractions. It seems to be my premolars and canines only.
online it says it’s usually nothing to do with decay but mechanical wear of the teeth or malocclusion. I have noticed my teeth have drastically changed position in the last decade (maybe less). Both my upper lateral incisors have become snagged teeth, they protude a LOT. Can it really be just down to my teeth being wonky? And will braces be the only answer?
