Thyroid function test

Suspected I was iron deficient and GP suggested running a thyroid function test along side.

It does look like I am iron deficient without anemia, with hemoglobin at 125 but ferritin 29 and ferritin saturation 22%. B12 is a bit crap at 260 too.

However, I’m clueless with the thyroid bloods. Are these normal/optimal?

Serum free thyroxine - 12.3 pmol/L
Serum TSH - 1.07 mu/L

I should add I’m 18 weeks pregnant.

Any help appreciated!

Normal thyroid function is 0.4-4 range. If its under you have hyperthyroidism. If over its hypothyroidism. 1.07 is normal but lower range.

I'm not a doctor but my endocrinologist likes my TSH to be around 1-2 and in the second trimester I was told a T4 between 9.8 and 15.9 was normal so your bloods look fine to me.

I'm sure your doctor will let you know if there's a problem?

@Anabella321 thank you. Im doubtful. As long as everything is “in range” they say normal, which is fine, but often normal isn’t optimal and I feel like crap!

@randommangoandpear what are you doubtful about?

randommangoandpear · 06/07/2023 22:34

@Anabella321 doubtful the doctor would let me know if there was an issue.

@randommangoandpear ok I'm not sure why they would run the test and not address any issues but from the results your thyroid is fine so nothing to worry about?

randommangoandpear · 06/07/2023 22:37

@Anabella321What I mean is that just because my numbers fall in to the labs ref range, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily normal as per NICE guidelines, and sometimes action is required but GP’s don’t believe so and mark as normal.

Not talking about thyroid by the way. Never suspected an issue with it to be honest. Thanks for confirming though!
