Vitamin d deficiency

Hello,
Had to have some bloods done for this and that and it came back that vitamin d is at 35 (norm 50+) and inorganic phosphate is at 0.5 (norm 0.8+) had a text saying to take 1000iu vitamin d and no advice for the low phosphate.
Can't get an appointment for 2 weeks to discuss anything with a Dr but from looking online that dose of vitamin d isn't going to touch it, anyone have any advice or had similar and what they did to raise both these levels,
Thanks 😊

When my vit d was at 20 I was given a couple of loading doses which were much bigger than 1000 and then a 6 week course of tablets. Can't remember the details now as it was a few years back.

Do you have an independent Health Shop nearby? not H&B? people who own pr work there are usually knowledgeable about these things. At a low ebb, after blood tests I was recommended D3. Thkse from the gp prescription were disgusting, with Aspartame. So I visited the local HF shop, had Gold multi and D3, double dose for 3 days to kickstart, feel tons better, now I have the Womens multi, they are expensive but good, American so well screened, organic, vegan, called Naturesplus. I used to go to Boots for vitamins, I wouldn’t waste my time now, check ingredients, good luck.

I buy my calcium and vitamin D supplements from an online company called Piping Rock. Not cheap, but they often have good offers. I have osteoporosis and I have to maintain optimum blood levels in order to have my zoledronate infusions. GP won't prescribe supplements, so I did quite a bit of research before choosing these ones.

I was low in VitD (picked up on routing blood test) and was prescribed a loading dose of 20000iu two or three times a week for a while, and am now on 800iu once a day as maintenance.

I have had low D before, so has DH and one of the kids, its quite common. we tale 2000iu every day and now at a good level, 100 for me and 75 for DH who forgets to take ti sometimes

Yes that incorrect advice. You need loading dose of vitamin d of 300,000iu over 6-8 weeks I think it is. Google the NICE guidelines on management of vitamin d deficiency to confirm.

Hi, what was the outcome regarding low inorganic phosphate levels plse? In same boat myself and feeling very anxious.

Shymama · 18/11/2024 16:04

@Jojo1298 hey, taking extra vitamin D helped boost it back up to a more normal range, did take quite a while for it to get to a level the GP was happy with though so just push through if that's something you've been recommended
