Need Advice, looks like Nappy rash but it's bleeding!

Dd2 has had what started out looking like nappy rash last Monday. It got a little bit worse even though we were putting sudocrem on it and it got to the stage where it looked all bumpy.

We were all ill last week and couldn't get out of the house but Dh made it to the chemist at the supermarket and asked them for advice and they gave him canestan cream, which did seem to help and it was clearing up.

But there are two bits that don't seem to be healing very well and tonight when I changed her nappy before bed a bit of it was bleeding! It doesn't bother her at all when we wash her and dry her and put cream on it she doesn't even flinch even though tonight it was looking really sore.

Does this sound like Nappy Rash gone wrong or could it be something entirely different? the part that wasn't bleeding looks like little craters.

I start back to work tomorrow and I'm going to try and get an emergency appointment at the dr's so Dh can take her along to get checked.

But I just wondered if anybody elses baby had ever had anything like this? Or does anybody have any idea what it could be?

there's a girl at the bfing group that i go to whose little ds had something similar and it was thrush- the chemist's canestaan was right. take her to doc's tomorrow but it should probably be ok

Teething? Sounds like nappy rash to me. Both ds's always got bleeding nappy rash when teething. Even with really quick nappy changes. I found sudocreme would usually clear it up really quickly.

Occasionally for whatever reason both my girls would go through a bout of this.

I've never pinned it down, although teething apparently makes saliva more acidic, so it follows that you would get more acidic poop! This seems to create almost instant nappy rash, that gets worse before it gets better, despite (like JJ mentioned) quick nappy changes, and tonnes of sudocrem and would eventually break and bleed (ouch) and then start to clear up.

As DD1 got older it DID bother her occasionally, then she could start to voice her discomfort. Made for difficult nappy changes, and sometimes not even sit down in the bath.

If it's a speckly rash that also leads to bleeding, then very likely thrush, so canestan (1%) applied liberally clears it quickly. It's the warm, damp conditions in the nappy that breed thrush so easily.

sounds like a nappy rash to me.
its what happens when the sore skin gets worse. my ds2 had really badly bleeding skin from the rash. basically you need to allow the skin to dry out. and to breath. best not to cover it in sudocream. leave the nappy off as much as possible, use water and pat dry rather than using wipes. and use vaselin or zincoxide rather than sudocrem. if it is thrush, then the canestan will work, but you will still need to let the skin breathe ass much as possible.
good luck

yes, my LO has got nappy rash like that at the moment. We tried lots of home medication but then took her to the doc's last week. She prescribed anibiotics and timodene. It has helped a bit but not cleared it so we might go back tomorrow.

We have tried to giver her as much nappy free time as we can, but I am worried it may take an age to heal as the 'crater' is so big. Sad

ds2 had two bleeding welts down both butt cheeks from the age of three weeks to eleven weeks. the problem was actually the acidity of his pooh, and the amount of times he did it. ( up to forty nappies a day) and the rash was caused by a mixture of acidity and friction from cleaning him. but as soon as his tummy got better, the rash cleared up. the tummy was fixed by giving him chamomilla drops. two drops ina teaspoon of water, three times a day. for five days. i noticed a difference after just one day, and insisted on giving it for a few more days. the hompathic doctor who prescribed it said to only use it for two days, then another two if it worked.

I agree it's often about the poo, it coincided with me stopping breastfeeding, LO not taking much milk from a bottle and trying out a number of milks. But I'm wondering if it's thrush.

when dd1 had terrible nappy rash - due to horrible medication - it was at times bleeding - the doc suggested mixing metanium and sudocrem and it cleared it up in no time.
