We've been a household of stomach bugs and severe d&v I'm wondering which food are good to settle and solidify the stomach!

I know to avoid fruit juice, banana and baked beans. But what has the opposite effect of prunes?

Immodium hasn't help the adults and although the kids are now over it, it would be helpful to know next time!

Banana can also bung you up when not sugary
White grains and cereals, no whole meal.
Rice

@PronounsBaby@YukoandHiro Ah yes, avoiding whole grain. When you say no sugary banana, do you mean when they are a little bit green?

Eggs. As old women used to say when I was a young one (I'm old myself now so here I am passing on shit 😆), eggs are very 'binding'.
Also the easily digested protein in eggs will aid your recovery.
Also apple puree kind of helps your insides re-balance after d&v, often the first thing to eat to kind of re-prepare you for food.

Plain rice, eggs and cheese.

Generally fat takes a while to digest.

Oh yeah eggs! I wondered if that was true, I eat slot of eggs anyway. Omelette with cheese and apple puree for afters for breakfast then...😃

Toast, rice and Apples apparently

BRAT diet - Bananas, rice, apples and toast.

I think eggs are good but just don't feel like eating them when I am sick.

My other suggestion is chicken soup - works for any illness as it's pure comfort food.

The only concern I would have is that if you have some sort of stomach bug, it may be better to ensure it is completely out of the system before eating something like eggs that may block you up and at the same time, keep whatever it is inside.

Disclaimer - I have no medical qualifications so this may all be rubbish!

If you've all had funny tummies you need to avoid dairy as you will have none of the enzyme in your stomachs to digest lactose, it takes a couple of days to build up again and you will be effectively lactose intolerant for a while and if you eat dairy it will continue the runs....

PronounsBaby · 01/07/2023 11:53

@apric0t oh no! I've been filling up on milk cream and yogurt this morning on the idea that they are high in fat and harder to digest so won't run through so quick!

I used this last time I was unwell. It worked really quickly.
