‘Reversing’ type 2 (pre)diabetes

Wondering if anyone can advise. I currently have gestational diabetes so am aware I’ll be at higher risk of developing type 2 in the future.

Does anyone know best way to avoid/prevent onset to type 2? Is it better to go low carb/sugar (almost keto?) or is it about cutting calories in general?

Activity I know is important- how important is it for activity to occur straight after eating? Or is it just general activity in the day that matters most?

I’ve watched a couple of Michael Mosley programmes and following glucose goddess on Instagram. Any other suggestions appreciated! Thank you

Low carb definitely works, and is a method advised to anyone with T2.

Just reducing sugar in all its forms and taking regular exercise will go a very long way.

Thanks all - took a look at the GD website - useful read. I’ve always been active so will continue that, think I will need to continue with the reduced carb/sugar for nutrition

I have Type 2 Diabetes and I have been told it’s not possible to reverse it once you have it but you can live with it and not have symptoms. Just try and limit Carbs and Sugar and keep your weight down.

I was diagnosed with type 2 some years ago. My hba1c was 88 . I went on , and still follow, a low carb diet. Within three months I came off metformin , a few months after my hba1c was 32 , I had lost a lot of weight and was more active.
For the last few years I am classed, by my gp, as in remission from diabetes . I take no medication . However I still follow low carb , I bake my own low carb bread eat no root vegetables, sugar , restrict fruit to berries , no oat, wheat etc , no alcohol.
However I am aware that if I changed my diet my type 2 diabetes would become a problem again and I am aware that , eventually , I may come out of remission anyway.
There are other ways , some follow Mediterranean diet , but for me low carb was easiest.

Thanks both - perhaps reverse isn’t the right word, I mean more remission.

@Lollygaggle thanks, the diet you’re following sounds like what I’m doing now. I think I’ll continue it but hope to allow myself some foods higher in carb/sugars occasionally as a treat

Not for everyone, but this doctor has a lot of videos about copious studies he goes through on a daily basis about how to avoid or reverse various health conditions with diet. It's often particular fruit, veg, nuts or herbs that have been studied that he looks at. It's very often a plant based diet that helps, sometimes things like (limited) fasting. There are a very large number of videos on diabetes.

You need t look at the work of Professor Roy Taylor and discuss further with your doctor. It's not the sort of diet that should be undertaken long term and without medical supervision.

I reversed my pre-diabetes by low carbing and dropping the two stone that had crept on.

Actually, particularly looking at family history (we have the gene), I suspect that decent activity levels and low carb is more significant than weight.

Thanks all - I’ve saved down those links to read - seems like low carb/Mediterranean along with getting weight down will be a good start
