He has been to the hospital with it a few months ago and was given movicol to bind his poop I suppose it worked for a little while now we back to what to do now?.

2 weeks ago he went to the loo I went to wipe his bum and my god I had a shock it was as if his bum had a major nose bleed it was bright slighty tinged dark red, it didn't continue and blood was in the toilet, he's had it on and off since then but not as bad only on his bum and it went away with just one wipe, I'm concerned it's obviously not Norma is it? l, I'm ringing up the doctors today, what could it be?, I've monitored his food intake and he's getting what he needs apart from when he goes to my mams were she can't be bothered to make him anything so he eats crap but that's not often and he hasn't been over there this week. Is he straining? Has polyp? I know nobody is doctor on here I just want something to make sense to stop my mind going in overdrive. I was diagnosed with parental OCD so I'm thinking of all kinds of things right now!.

If he’s been constipated it could be internal piles but I’m no doctor and he needs to be checked out.

Yes do go back to the GP. It’s not OCD to be worried about blood in a young child, it would worry most parents.

Yes my son had this. He was given something I think to soften, as he was tearing a bit.
Anyway it did resolve itself. But do take your son back if things haven't improved.

Straight back to GP - my dd was prone to constipation at that age, but this sounds worse. No question book him back in asap.

I would be asking for a cal protection test [ a stool sample to check for inflammation ]. Blood in stool should always be checked out. it can be a sign of crohns or colitis [ Inflammatory bowel disease ]

I'm hoping they give me one today because its not resolving, I've got him booked in and hopefully it's nothing more

It's not normal for a healthy child so you are right to get him to GP. You could ask GP for a stool softener. You can buy Dulcosoft which is gentle not looking let a full on laxitive. I'd give him a drink of fresh orange juice everyday to prevent constipation.

My 6yo bleeds on and off. GP said it is a fissure. She showed me and you can actually see the tear.

radfordrunner · 29/06/2023 12:47

Hi @Sweetthicthighs - sometimes you can have diarrhoea type poos and still be constipated - the liquid type poo flows round past the obstruction. I would definitely go back to your GP.

troppibambini6 · 29/06/2023 15:43

My son had this it was an anal fissure (small tear).
Yes to still being constipated but having runny poo as well.
