Gastritis help

I have recently been diagnosed with gastritis after several months of frequent vomiting and abdominal pain. I’ve been prescribed lansoprazole to be taken at night and advised to avoid acidic foods and eat little and often.

I’m still vomiting violently and urgently 2-3 times a week and this has been going on since October last year. Does anyone have any tips on at least getting the vomiting under control even if I have to tolerate some degree of pain? I’ve disgraced myself so many times by vomiting in the street or in public places where I haven’t quite reached a loo in time and even when I’m at home and do reach the loo I feel utterly miserable!

Any and all tips gratefully received.

Have you got any medical grade sick bags? I get terrible travel sickness and you can get bags that absorb the liquid into a gel pad and you seal them and throw it away. Might at least make you feel a bit better in public.

I had gastritis for years. Losing weight and changing my diet made a big difference - as did changing my attitude to stress. It's a horrible illness and I'm still not sure what brought mine on! I think it was a bad reaction to a vomiting bug that just irritated my stomach lining and took ages to go away.

Poor you - I hope you feel better soon and if not, I would definitely push for further tests. Don't suffer in silence.

I do think stress plays a huge part. I’m involved in a huge trial at work at the moment and have been stressed to the gills for months!

Which dietary changes helped you most @MeeThree? I could certainly do with losing 10lbs or so but I’m finding it hard to identify what my trigger foods are.

Changing the time of my meals was a big thing. Like you I had a stressful job and was eating really late in the evening. I stopped eating that late (really hard with a long hours job) and I cut out dairy (but I was milk allergic as a child so there was some history there). I love curries and things like that so didn't stop eating those but did cut back on desserts and alcohol!

Following with interest as I've just been diagnosed, always had a cast iron stomach, never had stomach bugs or nausea other than pregnancy.
I've no history of gastric issues but it looks like it may have been triggered by ibuprofen. I was put on omeprozole 20mg twice a day and it improved dramatically after a few days but has gone bad again two weeks on.
I honestly can't identify any food triggers. I eat a very healthy diet and I'm not overweight.

Your post could be written by me
I had to come off omeprazole for 2 weeks for a blood test and had been doing well but since starting back again I can't get my stomach under control. Popping omeprazole like they're going out of fashion. Co-sleep with ds and the gurgling in my belly is waking him up too. It's an awful feeling
My fil takes remeprazole(sp?) after trying everything else in the list he says it's the only thing that helps him
