Evening! Basically as the title says. Would this bite concern you? What should I be looking out for or keeping my eye on? I did go to the pharmacy this afternoon and she suggested a calomine lotion thing. She also suggested something else but they didn't have any! It's on my leg and happened on Saturday, just incase a normal bite should have gone by now!

Looks a normal reaction to a bite if it’s really itchy best thing to do is heat a spoon up with boiling hot water then place the hot spoon on the bite it draws out the poison

Hot spoon is brilliant, but I'd let the water cool down a bit from boiling. Hot top water is usually sufficient.

@Biteyflies Is this the whole area it covers (apologies for my rubbish graphics)? If so it looks like a bullseye pattern you can get from ticks (not a doctor, but I live in an area where there are ticks). https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease/
https://www.cdc.gov/lyme/signs_symptoms/rashes.html

We caught it early and the treatment was a course of antibiotics.

Try to get a specialist opinion, as it is nasty if left untreated.

Yarnysaura · 27/06/2023 22:20

It does look like a horsefly bite, and the reaction is fairly normal for horseflies. AHs, hydrocortisone cream, cold packs will all help. If it gets worse or you get tracking then seek medical advice.

It does not look like a bullseye tick bite!

@Whyohwhyohwhy123 I was just in someone's back garden at a bbq? I don't know how to know if it's a tick area?!

@CatsOnTheChair yes I suppose it is, but more yellowy white.... is that bad?!

They say to watch for tick bites if you have been walking in fields, countryside, nature reserves or heathland where you might find grazing sheep or deer.

waterlego · 27/06/2023 22:27

I wouldn’t personally be concerned by that, no, unless the red area was spreading, there was tracking or I felt unwell in other ways (fever etc). I would take antihistamines and monitor it.

WhatADrabCarpet · 27/06/2023 22:35

It's just a bite.

let you sleep??? 🤔

Itchy painful bites can interfere with sleep

Fraaahnces · 28/06/2023 04:23

Can you draw a line around the very edge of it and see if it continues to spread overnight? Take another photo when you do that as well. I would do that just in case it’s becoming infected. (Cellulitis). Otherwise, all the advice re ice, antihistamine cream, calamine lotion, oral antihistamines, cortisone cream are all great.)

Groutyonehereagain · 28/06/2023 04:58

It looks like a horsefly bite, little bastards! Use Hydrocortisone cream and take antihistamines.

Piriton is the best IMO for insect bites. Take it in the evenings - it makes me drowsy.

I've had several mozzie bites like that at once on holiday, horrible.

Cantwaitforsummertime · 28/06/2023 05:32

I agree it looks like a horsefly bite. I had one on my wrist last week. Initially I thought I had banged it as it was bruised with no sign of a bite but 2 bite marks soon appeared and the tracking was half way up my arm. Ice packs worked very well. I read about vampire horseflies a few days ago. Given the 2 puncture points I think it was one of these that bit me, as well as the bruising. Hope it eases up in the next few days.

CottonSock · 28/06/2023 08:01

Photos of my tracking bite. Think this was a horsefly the dirty evil things

Looks pretty normal reaction to me. Dh gets similar and occasionally infected. If it spreads, gets hot or weepy then see a ANP at surgery or walk in clinic. That is not a bullseye rash though.

Thanks all! Looked better this morning so just carried on doing what I was doing. Will check when home from work!
