Eyesight improving...?

I am early 30s, had glasses since being a young child and contact lenses since about age 10. Prescription about -6 ish.
Past fortnight I've noticed a deterioration in how well I could see. Right eye felt blurry and I kept cleaning and replacing contact lenses. Having to squint in glasses. Vision changing (or that was my perception throughout the day).

I had an eye test today, my eyes have improved by +0.5 in each eye. This appears to have been a concern but no one would say why, just that it was a worry and I have to return in two weeks.

Why could this be?

Hopeful bump?

So 0.50 better in current glasses compared to previous glasses prescription?
did you go to the same place as previously tested you?
The reason I ask if you’re quite myopic, you contact lens prescription is 0.50 less than you glasses prescription.
with different brands of contact lens, prescriptions can vary too.

if could also be pregnancy, slight swelling at the macula, some meds. It could be that you were over prescribed in the past.

Thanks for replying, yes, so I'm -6.00 and now -5.50 in glasses and then I had a contact lense check afterwards by another optician and that was -5.75 in both.

It was the same place as I've always had tests. I was expecting them to be worse, not better, as I've been having blurred vision and such trouble with vision recently.

They've asked me to not wear contact lenses for two weeks.

Could your eyes be dry and that is causing the blurriness?

Questionsforyou · 27/06/2023 09:07

Yes they could well be dry as I feel a bit hayfevery. I usually use eye drops.

If your eyes are dry and causes several irrational, you can try some eyes exercises. This will help to improving your eyes health and also helps to improve your vision in the future.

My eyes improved on keto …. Could it be this?

EmmaPaella · 27/06/2023 12:24

I have just googled it, and it can be a sign of diabetes. Maybe that’s why they want to double check. I am not saying it’s that! But know how annoying it is when you are not told a potential reason for concern.

You see that doesn't make sense. As your contacts are nearer your eyes the prescription is less to give the same effective power on the retina.

I think that why they've asked you to go back in a couple of weeks. You can also just have "funny eye days".........

Ah.My prescription has always been pretty much the same for my glasses and contact lenses actually, maybe a -025 difference. I didn't know that wasn't right.

Diabetes can make your prescription change as can other eye conditions. But for someone to be diabetic enough for the lens to swell there would usually be symptoms and also other signs on the retina.

So you would be able to tell from the eye would you, usually? As they did one of those fancy scans that they charge for.
