Why do I feel so exhausted so often?

Is it normal to feel so exhausted that your body physically hurts - I feel this way most weekends. I don't do a physical job, and I do exercise a few times a week. I do work hard and my job is stressful, but by the time I gets to Saturday or Sunday I feel tired, low energy, achy and physically sore. This morning I couldn't find the energy to get out of bed at all. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, as other people around me seem to be able to cope so much better and can keep going, whereas I just crash so often. I don't have children, and I'm not depressed or anything.

Anyone felt like this and fixed it? Or any idea why/cause?

Not common but you would have to give us more info to help us help you understand why.

Are you a healthy weight, do you eat regularly, do you use drugs, what exercise exactly do you get, do you sleep well, do you live with a disability?

Are you being treated (on meds) for any chronic diseases, how old are you, where exactly do you ache?

Maybe you ache from getting stiff from too little exercise?

CrunchyCarrot · 25/06/2023 18:23

Always get your thyroid checked out if you feel fatigue like this.

PrincessofWellies · 25/06/2023 18:27

Anaemia is fairly common in females so it's worth getting your bloods checked. Have you thought about your diet? Being low in protein can be an issue too.

Long covid is the obvious possibility.

When you say "sore", what do you mean? In your very bones?

Do you have night sweats, breathlessness or unusual bleeding (gums, heavier periods, bruising?)

Is your weight stable?

Have you had any infections recently, and if so, was it hard to shift?

Are you of an age where the perimenopause could be a factor?

OP, I have been the same since Christmas 2022 when I had Covid. I started to take B12 regularly. Then had blood tests which were fine. Tried walking 30 minutes every day but that did not help. I have now totally overhauled my diet and eat minimal processed foods and concentrate on protein ( Greek yoghurt, nuts, raw honey etc) no sugar. Slowly I have been feeling better.
Have a chat with your GP.

Low vitamin d causes all those symptoms. Try taking a vit d tablet, with a good multivitamin, for a couple of weeks.

Most vit d tablets are 1,000iu but those deficient can take a lot more so it won't harm you to take an added multivitamin as well just for a few weeks.

Go to your GP and get your bloods tested. Could be any number of easy to treat things such as B12 deficiency, thyroid problem. Or worse coeliac disease. Or worse still ME/CFS.

I have ME/CFS and that is how it started.

What is your lifestyle like?

  • do you get enough sleep
  • is your diet varied and full of nutrients
  • do you exercise
  • do you have any significant stresses
  • other than exhaustion do you have any other concerning symptoms- losing weight without trying, frequent urination, hair loss etc

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. To answer questions -

Hurts as in muscle soreness, body feels tender - almost like a bruise does

I don't have a disability

Am taking meds for depression and anxiety but they work really well for me and I don't suffer with either when I'm on them.

I'm in my late 30s

I do exercise - so a few times a week I do strength training, up until recently I also ran a bit as well and did yoga. I felt like this then though as well. Haven't done either of those for a few months though, just strength atm.

I think my diet is OK, I don't eat meat but I do eat fish. Diet could probably be more consistent though as I do definitely have days where I eat crap.

I am stressed at work and do work quite an intense job

Had iron levels checked a few years ago, but should get them done again - vitamin D is something I haven't tried but will do, thanks.

I think my diet is OK, I don't eat meat but I do eat fish.

A meatless diet can be healthy, but vegetarians especially vegans need to make sure they're getting enough vitamin B12, calcium, iron, and zinc. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics warns of the risk of vitamin B12 deficiencies in vegetarians and vegans. Vitamin B12 is found naturally only in animal products.

If you don't eat meat then you need to take a Vit B12 supplement.

I felt very weak this time last year, and poor handwriting, went to oesopath too.
Diagosed Parkinson’s in September, I still get aches, generally much better with meds.
Each time I go away I find it a challenge
