Brain bleed..... please advise me

9 weeks ago I fell over and broke 6 ribs. I had a CT scan to confirm. I was in hospital for a week. The doctors didn't tell me immediately that the scan also showed a small brain bleed. They didn't know if this was a result of the fall.... I had an MRI seven days after the fall which showed the bleed had stopped.
All this information was presented to neurosurgeons at the time. They decided to leave it and I was sent home.
My problem is that I am very concerned that I'm going to have an aneurysm any minute. I'm really very worried about this. My GP has told me that the neurosurgeons don't want to do anything, but shouldn't I at least have an MRI check every six months or so? I'm 69, relatively fit, good blood results and blood pressure. I'd be grateful for advice because I'm scared.

Sorry to hear about your health problems but glad you’re getting better. Did they tell you where the bleed was? It may be that it’s a subdural bleed following the fall, which isn’t linked to an aneurysm. A subarachnoid can be caused by trauma or an aneurysm. They’ll know the likely type of bleed from the scan etc.

How do you know the brain bleed didn’t cause you to fall in the first place? That’s what I’d be worried about.

Thanks for your considered response. I must grasp the nettle and read my discharge notes. I've been too scared to do so, but that's just stupid. Do you think I'm over worrying this and the neurosurgeons know what's what? Obviously they know a damned lot more than me... but I am concerned.

TBH I'd had too much to drink. I stepped backwards and fell over.... entirely my fault......

It’s scary to read the notes, but it sounds like you’re worrying about the worst anyway, so better to know. The neurosurgeons will have a pretty good idea of the relative risks from the type of bleed and your history. I’d look if I were you, or make an appointment ( phone call would probs be OK) so your GP can explain. Good luck!

You've allayed my fears somewhat. Definitely better to talk through this and potential risks, rather than being a worried wreck. Thanks for your time x
