Bad dizzy spells.

For the last few days I have had some quite bad dizzy spells, so bad I have had to hold onto something for a few minutes until it passed.
Neither time was I bending/standing or doing anything other than standing still when it felt like the whole room was turning round me.
My ears have been popping loads as well as I have driven around, I live in a hilly area but normally when I drive around town they don't pop, any ideas?
Can't get to a docs now until late next week but was wondering if anyone could shed light or is it just one of those things?

The dizziness could be a low blood pressure thing - obviously much better to have low than high, but has caused me some dizziness in the past. Don't know about the ear thing though - is there not any way you could see the Dr sooner? Not that I think you should be worried at all, just that it sounds a bit of a nightmare for you.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 22/02/2008 20:38

could it be an inner ear infection? affects your balance, making you dizzy. not sure about the ear popping though.

Ledodgy · 22/02/2008 20:40

It sounds like labyrinthitis

VeniVidiVickiQV · 22/02/2008 20:42

Yep, labyrinthitis. i've had it quite a bit. You need to get to the docs to get some stuff to sort it.

ChirpyGirl · 22/02/2008 20:46

I only have out of hours GP until next week and then have double glazing being fitted so really want to be here. I can go if I really need to though.

Ledodgy that looks quite possible, I have bad hearing so would notice that but DH has pointed out that I have been complaining of feeling sick and headaches as well.

I did take a pregnancy test earlier (Seriously panicking DH in the process) but it wasn't that.

God I had labyrinthitis hideous. I didn't take antibiotics and the dizziness stopped but I was exhausted for about a week after. I'm sure I picked it up from the swimming pool. Also you are not allowed my Dr told me not to drive for 7 days.

ChirpyGirl · 22/02/2008 20:50

thanks VVV, will it get worse if I don't go? I can't go to out of hours over the weekend as it involves going to hospital with both kids (DH is typically on the 2 weeks a year when he has to be in office all day every day to supervise works!) and sitting there for god knows how long.

Ears popping could be the fact that the weather is crappy so pressure is low, or high, I never understand how that works.

If it carries on I shall take myself off on Monday after Glazing man has come and been settled in.

Not to drive? Shit, that would suck!

Should I go to out of hours GP then?

IME it usually gets worse over a period of a few days. Although i occasionally get bouts of it where I get one or two a day, for a couple of days and then it goes.

If it's there most of the time, but slowly getting worse, I'd get it seen to.

lululemonrefuser · 22/02/2008 20:55

I've had this a couple of times too. One time it just stayed as occasional bouts, then went away, but the first time was horrific and it did get much worse in the first few days.

See if you can get to doc and get prescribed Stemetil (not sure of sp.). It is an anti-nausea & dizziness drug - fantastic stuff. It was all that kept me sane!

Hope you get better soon.

grouphug · 22/02/2008 20:59

I got the Dr on call to ring me and they really were not interested in seeing me or giving me antibiotics. They said just rest and it should clear within 2 weeks i couldn't really rest as I have a 6 month old baby but OH took a couple of days off so I could lay in bed and he would bring her to me to breastfeed. But it was the exhaustion that hit me the week after like post viral fatigue and the thirst I drank so much water I think that was because when I felt well I went back to my normal life of trying to do everything when I should have taken things a bit easier.

Hope you get better soon. Unfortunately if the Dr says not to drive then your insurance not valid so I didn't.

ChirpyGirl · 22/02/2008 21:06

I havea 20 week old and a 2 year old, and really there is no way that DH can get time off, any other time of year it would be no problem but it is paramount he is at work, typical.

I wouldn't drive if told not to, it would just be sooo dull to be stuck here, we have nothing to do within walking distance!

Have had a couple fo dizzy spells in last hour or so just sitting in front of PC. I think I might call out of hours and get an appointment, although that will involve driving to the docs....ffs, why don't they do hoke visits anymore!

Well, score one to MN!
It is labrynthitis, she has given me some pills to even out pressure around inner ear so hopefully that should help.

It is not fun.
