H pylori or what?

Can anyone offer advice?
I’ve been suffering with bad guts for nearly a year now - had most tests and findings are inconsistent:
Calprotectin was high twice ( over 2000 the 2nd time) then re/test was normal 2 months later. This really confused me and no Dr could explain properly.
colonoscopy (due to high calprotectin) & FIT test - fine
h pylori (stool) - fine
coeliac blood - fine
small bowel mri - fine
abdo ultrasound- fine
finally had a full endoscopy (my first one in Dec couldn’t be completed due to still having undigested food in stomach) and they found some redness in the first part of small intestine even though small bowel mri was ok last Oct. I was too out of it so can’t remember what the gastro said afterwards, but I have the report and I have a follow up in two weeks (biopsies were taken), but no date as yet and we are going away so may be after mid-July.
I can also see there was a h pylori swab taken too of the area. This is confusing as wouldn’t it have shown in stool if it was present?
The only things it could feasibly be according to google are:
h pylori (most likely in terms of presentation but already had neg result)
chrons (I really do not have classic chrons symptoms, but calprotectin did point to this)
coeliac
overuse of NSAIDs- haven’t taken one since last summer
alcohol use - I’m not a big drinker and haven’t drunk for nearly a year. I had one binge a year ago but surely not from that!
Main current symptoms are reflux related and also excessive rumbling on rhs mainly, some external piles atm (but thought that was random as occasionally get them anyway).
I’m eating extremely cleanly and don’t smoke/drink/have a life 😆
have taken ppi on and off but not v effective and get side effects so won’t go back unless gastroenterologist deems are essential for treatment.

I've had H Pulori twice. I don't know about a lot of the medical stuff you've mentioned but mine was confirmed by endoscopy both times

As you are still in discomfort I would imagine you'll be eventually referred for one

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/06/2023 09:03

I mean, they will need to redo one I think. Surprised you weren't asked to fast. It seems likely to me.

Boredofmyguts · 24/06/2023 10:02

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit - I did have my second endoscopy this week hence the findings! The first was in Dec where I fasted for 6-7 hours, this time was 12 hours.

If you were on a PPI at the time of the h pylori test this can interfere with the accuracy too.

Hope you get the results soon!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/06/2023 12:19

It really seems like you will get diagnosed HP and get medication it's different to just omeprazole I think but I can't remember the name fingers crossed for you.

Boredofmyguts · 24/06/2023 12:50

@blackcurrantqueen - I wasn’t on ppi for the test (had been off 2 weeks prior). All a bit confusing!

Updated to say I got some results back and I am positive for h pylori. I have my gastro consultation on the weekend so will
a) see if there are any other biopsy results
b) hopefully get green lighted for the treatment
I’m really hoping it gets rid of the infection and in turn heals the duodenum and the reflux. There’s no guarantees but I’m prepared to try!!

My treatment for H Pylori was triple therapy -

Clarythromycin
Amoxicillin
Lanzaprozole

Wasn't nice, but did the trick. Two weeks treatment, and a stool test one month after treatment ended to ensure the infection was gone. It was. I feel so much better now, but did have a slow bleed from one of the tiny ulcers. All sorted now.

So1invictus · 30/06/2023 20:38

Like my good friend @EineReiseDurchDieZeit I've had h.pylori twice.

You'll be as fit as a fiddle once you've had the antibiotics. Surprised they didn't just give you a prescription there and then. My second time the doctor didn't even see me, just told me to pick the meds up.

Hope you feel better soon!

KnittedCardi · 30/06/2023 21:06

Yeah. I've also had it twice. Once in my twenties, and then recently again in my fifties. I react really badly to Clarythromicin, bad bowels, terrible taste, but it did work, and after a couple of weeks of back to normal, my acid and pain has gone.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/06/2023 21:10

@So1invictus

In excellent company!

Boredofmyguts · 30/06/2023 22:35

so pleased to hear it worked for you ladies! Lanzoprazole made me shit like there’s no tmw so will ask for another ppi!!

So1invictus · 30/06/2023 22:39

In fairness, the second time I had it I didn't take the ppi at all. My GP said "some people take them, some don't, they aren't part of the cure, just something to ease the symptoms".

regustering · 30/06/2023 22:42

Is this not related to stomach acid/stomach? Because I have a hitial hernia and stomach acid coming up my throat.... cough, sore throat etc.

So1invictus · 30/06/2023 22:44

Yes, it's a bacterial infection in the stomach causing lots of acid. I think the symptoms of hiatus hernia are pretty similar if I remember my Dr. Googling phase before my test came back!
