DH was diasgnosed with underactive thyroid a fortnight ago & put on medication. He also has cholesterol level 5.2 & they found fatty deposits on his liver.
He was referred for ultrasounds on both his thyroid & liver which he had this morning. Should we be very worried? Will he be OK? He's 40.

Cholesterol levels are affected by any thyroid dysfunction, so that should probably be checked again once his thyroid is back in range. They are presumably checking for any modules on his thyroid with the scan, which is quite routine. Did he have his thyroid antibodies tested? No idea about the liver, but your thyroid being wonky affects pretty much every organ and system in your body, so it could well be thyroid related.

nodules!!

@BatshitCrazyWoman thank you so much for the reply.
He was put on thyroid medication immediately 2 weeks ago after his bloods came back.

Also put on
a low dosage of cholesterol medication even though the doctor said it was likely thyroid related but he will probably no longer need once the thyroid medication does it's job.

The blood tests also revealed fatty deposits on his liver. So he had an ultrasound yesterday on both the liver & thyroid.

His stomach is very swollen of late. His lifestyle isn't great. Ex smoker, not a big drinker at all, but diet isn't good & he doesn't get much excercise.

He's worried as he thinks something worse could be wrong as he was sent for the ultrasounds..

He has been suffering from awful restless legs & numb fingers.

I'm not a doctor, but do have a thyroid problem. Thyroid issues can cause fluid build up in tissues, which can cause numbness and tingling. Have a look on the Thyroid UK site for a full list of all the symptoms of an underactive thyroid. They are very wide-reaching - I had a lot of cardiac and lung issues.

Thanks so much, he was in hospital earlier in the year with chest pains but they found nothing wrong.. They didn't check thyroid though..

I have a 'slightly fatty liver' which I found out in pregnancy! I went to the maternity unit at my hospital for itchiness. I had obstetric cholestasis and that day they sent me for a gall bladder and liver scan and that's when they said about the fatty liver. They actually didn't say anything about it after that! Now I know I have it I'm trying to eat a bit better though!

Now that I know I have the slightly fatty liver*

Untreated hypothyroidism can lead to liver issues which then reverse on treatment.

No need to panic. It sounds like his GP is being thorough.
