Haemorrhagic stroke support

My husband had a haemorrhagic stroke 4 weeks ago at 60. He is paralysed on his left side and can speak, albeit quietly and slowly. He keeps getting recurring unspecified blood infections.
He rang me at 3.30am from his ward, totally confused and hallucinationating again about Nazis storming his hotel 🙈
Anyone here that's been through similar that can offer a hand hold and words of wisdom?
I'm finding it pretty damn difficult .

Hi lovely , my dad had an Ischemic stroke 5 weeks he was doing so well with his physio & recovery and has now caught Covid and not in a good way atall he’s 85 so a lot older than your hubby .
Have the hospital said anything about testing for infection maybe a uti ? Sometimes this can lead to confusion

MintToBee · 23/06/2023 19:30

Yes they are going to check for a UTI, especially as he's got a catheter .
Apparently they have started him on anti anxiety meds and pain relief for his shoulder as it had popped out and no-one really noticed as he was so slumped.
I just want him home.

I really understand what you’re going through has the hospital discussed rehab with you ?

MintToBee · 23/06/2023 22:00

Yes. He's just been moved today to a rehabilitation centre nearer home. Physio starts tomorrow 🤞

Best wishes OP 💐 It's sounds like they are on it. I'd bet money It's a UTI. Really sorry this has happened. So difficult when there are all the uncertainties. He's in the best place for now so take some time for yourself. Turn your phone off for short periods of time too and get yourself some proper rest xx

My late OH had PD and became totally physically incapacitated and mentally totally bonkers. I know how hard it is when a loved one is in the grip of delusions (he thought he was being cut up and put down the sewer). I do hope some of this resolves quickly and that the rehab placement will get him back on his feet.

I am sending a hug as I know how difficult it is to have a partner who becomes so ill.

The main problem we have is is he getting vascular dementia. We won't know for a few months down the line once his brain injury is a bit more stable.
And the financial aspect. I spoke to welfare rights and to get any financial help I need to drop my hours from 45 a week to 12!!!!
I'll deal with that nearer the time.
I do feel for everyone going through similar.
Hope your Dad is OK @Scoobydo87 ?
