DD fainted at school

My DD (5.11) fainted at school on Friday at home time. She was with her teacher and she just went all floppy and fell down 3 concrete steps and landed on the playground floor. The teacher picked her up as she just stayed there. Luckily she only got a graze on her chin and her nose but she was very shocked. I took her straight to the Dr's who gave her the all clear and told me its not uncommon for children to pass out. Well today, DD was out with her nan and the same sort of thing happened. She was holding her nans hand and she went limp and her legs gave way. Her nan stopped her from falling to the ground and put her straight in the buggy and got my DS to walk instead. DD seems well in herself, she is on antibiotics for a urine infection and is awaiting a scan to check her kidney's aren't scarred. She has no temperature so what could be causing this? The Dr checked her heart, temp, eyes and nails and said she appears well. Every time we hear a bang now, we are rushing to see what it is!

This happened to me all the time as a kid. If I ever banged my knee or elbow, for example, I would pass out. The dr said to my parents it was to block out pain. As I neared my teens I also passed out if I felt unwell or sick but I had learnt by then to feel the warnings so I sat down on the floor, wherever I was!! In adulthood it lessened, as less bumps and bruises. It was a monthly occurance when my cycle started as I had very painful periods - eventually diagnoised with endo. In pregnancy it was a nightmare due to low blood pressure and I wasn't allowed out unaccompanied, passed out in Sainsburys, Next and just walking down the street.

Sorry to have gone on, divirsed a bit from the point Blush. Hope your daughter is ok, she eating regular, carry a mini mars bar around, if she can tell you she is feeling faint maybe he blood sugar is low - just an idea.

Good luck and thinking of your DD

I used to faint all the time when I was a child- still do now in fact if I have to stand still for any length of time (shall I tell you the story about the assembly at school when Miss Pixiefish couldn't find a chair and decided to stand????) or if I get too hot while standing still - (yep I stood next to the radiator)

Hmm.. it's probably nothing but, personally, I would sort of push for an appt with a specialist. One of my friends ds has just had what appears to be a grand mal fit. He had passed out a few times before but the parents hadn't really noticed (in as much as he would say he went to sleep on the landing after school, for example, and mum just thought aren't boys weird!)

I spoke to a different Dr today and she said she would need to see DD again. She wanted to speak to the Dr that saw us on Friday and then would phone me back to let me know what they had decided. She didn't phone back though. But, DD seemed fine today. I told her teacher and the first aiders at school what had happened so we now have 4 watchful eyes over her!
