Very early period (and other gynae worries)

Sorry, this is long.

This morning, i woke up to find i seem to have started my period just two werks after the last one (i.e. on day 15 of my cycle). It feels like a period, and looking back I felt like I ovulated very early this month (but not early enough to explain the shortness of the cycle). This all comes on the back of other gynae worries...

I posted last month about a worrying time I was going through with an ultrasound that showed small hemmohagic cysts on both ovaries and a subsequent slightly raised ca125 level. That thread is here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_health/4804732-ovarian-cysts-raised-ca125-and-2-week-referral?page=1

The outcome was that I had an urgent referral to a Women's Hospital and had an appointment with Consultant Nurse who basically said my scan looked totally unworrying, the cycts looked totally benign, and that the blood test was nonspecific and could be raised for any number of reasons, and basically sent me on my way after a repeat blood test, saying she wouldn't be worried unless it was sky high. This second blood test came back slightly more raised and so I've got to have a repeat scan in 3 months to reassess the cysts. No urgency apparently.

So I was already pretty stressed before this random period!! I guess my questions are:

  • can stress cause a really short cycle?
  • could the cysts have cuase the short cycle?
  • could this period just because I'm 42, and my cycle is starting to go wonky?

Given my recent scan showed no womb thickening anything apart ftom the cysts and my smears are all clear and up to date, I'm assuming this bleeding isn't due to anything sinister in that department, but given my ca125 is a bit up, I'm pretty (very) anxious.

Of course I'll call the GP on Monday, but for now I could do with some hand-holding.

Feeling very anxious right now, and wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with a positive outcome. I had an ultrasound this week because o...

Absolutely, and as you’ve had scans I’d bet this was the cause, rather than anything sinister.
In my early 40’s, thanks to peri menopause, my previously regular periods were all over the place from two periods in a month to missing the odd one.

Thank you @ChocolateCoveredCookie
I know, rationally, this is the most likely explanation. It's just the worry of this raised ca125 level is making me worry there's something sinister gong on somewhere...

My first thought was that it's the start of perimenopause. I was 42 when my periods started being odd. I sometimes had several days of spotting before a period, or two periods in 5 or 6 weeks. Sometimes incredibly heavy periods with lots of clots and flooding, sometimes very light periods that seemed to finish too early. I'm now 48 and it's still going on.
That's probably what's happening with you but if you're concerned you can mention it to the GP.
