For the last year since I had pelvic inflammatory disease I have probably only had one working ovary. I've been trying get pregnant for more than 2 years since last m/c.

I started to take it more seriously last month for the first time (preferred denial before ) and bought some ovulation sticks.

One month my cycle is 34 days long with very little pmt (3 days), the other month (right now ) is 30 days long with 10 days of very bad pmt.

Which month is likely to be the month with the working ovary cos when I used the ovulation sticks for the first time on days 17/18/19 this month I thought I was surging ?

Am I surging this month (with the bad pmt and the short cycle) but not ovulating ?

Or will it be next month with the long cycle, short pmt, and if so which days is it worth testing for the surge cos the cycles are three days different?

Any advice/help appreciated - feel very sad tonight as have heavy period so not pregnant and ate giant tobleron

Laurie, Hope someone who knows more will be along soon. AFAIK longer cycles can be a sign of not ovulating. I have a similar problem in that I only have one tube so although I probably ovulate every month, the chance of the egg being picked up is a lot lower one side. It took 2.5 years for me to get pg again after losing my tube with an ep so I know how awful long term ttc can be. Have you tried plotting your temperature to see if there is a pattern? You should be able to tell from that whether you have ovulated that month. I also bought the really cheap opk strips so it didn't matter if I wasted a few when I was still getting the hang of it. Let me know if you want to know more and I'll post again when I'm more awake.

Are you under the care of a gynae currently at a subfertility unit?. If not you should be under the care of such a person. Your GP should refer you.

You've previously been diagnosed with PID and you are well beyond the stage of using OPK's etc (these methods are beset with problems anyway and are thus not worth using). It is quite possible to have more than one LH surge every month and such surges are not automatically followed by ovulation. It is also quite possible to have periods without actually ovulating.

Has an HSG test (tubal x-ray) been done to determine whether there are any blockages in the fallopian tubes?. This should also be done as a matter of course.
