Might need a bit more info. What kind of bloody test?

Trinity69 · 15/06/2023 19:28

Meant blood obviously! My phone betrayed me!

BlameItOnTheGoose · 15/06/2023 19:30

What are they testing for?

What are you looking to achieve by altering your diet immediately before the test?

cptartapp · 15/06/2023 19:31

For sugar and cholesterol for example, three months.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 15/06/2023 19:33

Without knowing the test we have no idea.

If you eat an awful diet and change it to a good one, the results tend to show quite nicely after six months or so. Blood tests do have to be done before the change of diet and advise taken from a dietician (based o the results of the tests) for best results.

Kerfuffler · 15/06/2023 19:36

A Hba1c blood test (as opposed to a fingerprick test) looks at your blood sugars over the last three months to check for diabetes

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 15/06/2023 19:39

Usually it would be best to stick to normal conditions so the results are indicative of your real life situation.

If you for example think you have a vitamin deficiency, and you spend the next week overdosing on that vitamin then the result will be inaccurate.

Willmafrockfit · 15/06/2023 20:06

oh i dont think i have anything, but know i have BP
and i guess they are looking for diabetes?

<<rebooks appointment>> Wink
thanks very much

I may be misinterpreting but it reads like your Dr thinks you may have diabetes, you want to try to trick the blood test by eating well for a finite period to get a 'good' result.

If that's the case then why even bother having the test? It's just a waste of everyone's time and NHS money because either you get a good result and think you've successfully tricked the test and then go back to normal in which case you possibly still have diabetes, who knows. Or you get a result of diabetes but you seem willing to ignore that anyway so presumably wouldn't treat.

Seems like you may as well just not do the test and take the risk.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 15/06/2023 20:33

It is an interesting concept, isn't it @FatAgainItsLettuceTime .

I'm sure OP can cure potential diabetes in 3 months with her extensive medical knowledge.

Willmafrockfit · 15/06/2023 20:50

oh thanks a bunch.
nobody thinks anything,
it is a random check up, not been seen for a year

why so bitchy?
is it quite necessary

Honestly, if you're diabetic, "cheating" the test by getting yourself in remission by whatever means is all good and well, but as soon as you stop any changes it all gets undone and you're back to having diabetic sugar levels....
If you're pre diabetic, your surgery can give you really good support, same if you're diabetic.
I was diagnosed with normal blood pressure and being underweight (I'm a healthy weight ten years on and it's ace!)

All the best with all and any tests.

Probably because you're talking in riddles.

Trinity69 · 15/06/2023 21:12

Medical tests are carried out to see if there are any underlying problems. Eating well in the run up and then intending to go back to ‘normal’ afterwards is pointless.

RegainingTheWill2023 · 15/06/2023 21:17

I don't think anyone is bring bitchy .
It's that your question doesn't make sense. If you're being sent for a routine blood test you dont "do" anything different or try to be healthier. You just turn up and they take your blood...

crackfoxy · 15/06/2023 22:38

12 weeks

DyslexicPoster · 15/06/2023 22:44

2-3 months if they do hb1ac for diabetes. Probably better to your true results then act on those results. If your hb1ac is too high then your better knowing
