Baby not right after 12 month jabs

Littlemuffin17 · 15/06/2023 13:41

Hi!

My 13 month old had her jabs last week. She was really inconsolable that night but slept fine and then seemed ok the next 2 days. After that she has been extremely whingy and totally not herself - doesn't eat that much, is sleeping ok but is totally needy and just won't do anything like play with toys etc. She cries at almost everything.

I kept thinking maybe she's teething as she keeps getting a temperature on and off. I feel like I should have shares in Calpol at this point.

Can anyone please reassure me as i'm now starting to really worry. I'm totally pro jabs but now i've read tons of stories about the MMR causing long term issues and other people saying the 12 month jabs should be more spread out.

I'm just really worried something is up and would love to know if other people have experienced the same and how long it lasted?

Thanks,

The MMR jabs are very safe. They can be, but are not required to be spread out. Teething is the most likely explanation. Come up from the rabbit hole you've been going down.

FlounderingFruitcake · 15/06/2023 13:46

The fever from the measles bit is normal at a week post vaccine, a reaction from the mumps bit can be 3 weeks (but that’s less common) and yes could be teething too plus peak age for clingy separation anxiety and it’s bloody right now!! The ‘stories’ you’ve read are likely conspiracy theories, it’s fine to have them altogether and the body doesn’t even react to the different bits at the same time hence what I’ve said above. Why not call the GP and ask for a phone appointment with the nurse if you’d like to double check with a HCP? Stay away from Dr Google and crazy internet ramblings though!

TeaKitten · 15/06/2023 13:48

The jab is very safe, she’s likely teething or got a virus. Speak to a health care professional if concerned and stop reading conspiracy crap. I’m sure she will be back to normal before you no it. It’s always worrying when they aren’t themselves though, it’s a stressful part of parenting for sure.

FlounderingFruitcake · 15/06/2023 13:48

They can be, but are not required to be spread out.
They can’t be as the single vaccines are no longer available. MMR is the only way to protect your baby from these horrible diseases.

purplejeanie · 15/06/2023 13:49

It took my baby about 2 weeks to get over the 12 month jabs. He was exactly how you describe. I think some babies are just very sensitive to the side effects.

but now i've read tons of stories about the MMR causing long term issues

but not from medically verifiable sources.

My baby was very unsettled after his 1 year vaccinations. He got a high temperature after
a week (39.5°), which lasted a few days, and hardly came down with calpol.

He was clingy and sad, and not himself. A couple of weeks after that, he got a rash (apparently from the mumps part of the vaccine) which looked terrible. Lasted 48 hours or so.

Overall, we felt these latest vaccinations really messed him around for a couple of weeks, and it was sad to watch. But so much better than watching your baby get sick from measles,
mumps, rubella, meningitis etc etc.

A bit of recovery required after a vaccination is so much better than sickness or death from horrific childhood diseases.

Forgot to add, She will be fine.

muddlingthrou · 15/06/2023 13:54

My DD contracted mini measles after her MMR jab, with similar symptoms to those you described. Eventually she developed a subtle rash on her face and body too. We panicked and took her to A&E, where they checked her out thoroughly and diagnosed her. They said it was a good sign her immune system had reacted so strongly! Within a couple of weeks she was fine.

CoachBeardsJane · 15/06/2023 13:57

It's perfectly normal for her to feel crappy after the jab. Did you not have the information from the nurse? This is from the nhs website

DD had her 12m jabs on Tuesday. Screamed at the time but was fine with one dose of Calpol overnight. Still happily active and playing and joining in her usual classes. Naps are a bit longer but that could just be the heat. I was told to look out for various symptoms within the next few weeks.

DappledOliveGroves · 15/06/2023 14:05

DD2 had a reaction after the MMR. About 7 or 9 days later she had a low-ish fever, on and off for a fair few days. She wasn't happy, didn't want to eat, and it lasted for a few weeks before she perked up and went back to normal.

Littlemuffin17 · 15/06/2023 14:25

Thanks everyone. I wouldn’t normally panic but I think because when my 3 year old had them she didn’t have any symptoms afterwards so I think this has made me worry more.

the nurse wasn’t overly helpful when we were there. I just wonder at what point should I speak to them again (they aren’t helpful at the best of times). I would go private but equally my paediatric charges £200 and I don’t know what they would really say at this point - maybe just say it’s normal so I guess I’ll just see how she goes.

Variation in response is huge, even within one individual - most people I know had wildly different responses to the covid jabs, most recently (eg mine were: 2 day fluey; a week of awful; no effect at all, all the same type).

All the anti-MMR "controversy" is absolute bullshit, from Andrew Fucking Wakefield (who should be slammed in prison for life for his role in the deaths of tens of thousands or more thanks to his paid-for lies) to the know-nothing "concerned parents" who are prattling nonsense all over the Internet.

ksabps · 30/06/2023 21:14

@Littlemuffin17 how is your little one now? My son Ks going through exactly what your describe. He had his 1 year jabs last Wednesday. He had a fever the day after which we expected and then since last Friday until yesterday he temp has been constant 37.5 (which is classed a normal, but in my eyes is elevated?). However, since yesterday - his temp has been 39 and once the calpol wear off we have to dose him again. How long did your little one‘a fever last for? Hope he/she is fine now.

Littlemuffin17 · 26/10/2023 13:00

Hi @ksabps Sorry this is such a late response. So a couple of days after this I went into her in the morning and she had a temperature, blue lips, freezing cold hands so we rushed to A&E. Turns our her infections markers were almost 300 (should be around 5-10). They diagnosed her with sepsis and we spent a week in hospital!!
Lesson to me to always trust my gut.
Hope you're little one is ok now x

Hey, How is your little one now? My baby girl had hers last Friday and she started vomiting early hours of Sunday morning, and diarrhoea all Sunday and again today! She’s really out of sorts and when I consoled in the NHS the out of hours doctor said it’s normal, and the GP I spoke to on Monday said the same thing. I haven’t seen anything online about it having this much of an affect and just so happens Iv because really dizzy abs unwell today as well.

Has anyone else’s baby had these symptoms? X

bracemyselfagain · 10/01/2024 18:50

My DD had hers last month - had a delayed reaction (which apparently is normal).

Day of, and day after jabs she had a slight temperature, very grizzly and off her food.
1 week later, vomiting and slight diarrhoea, flushed cheeks, off food, disturbed sleep and a slight temperature.

If you notice a rash do the glass test, and Calpol isn't helping call 111 or just take to A&E - just because they're symptoms of teething don't allow yourself to be fobbed off that conclusion.
