I'm stuck in an itch /rub cycle .The only thing that helps is warm compresses .Drops seem to actually make it worse .
Boots itchy eye drops slightly more soothing than those for hayfever .

What medication are you taking for hayfever?

PinkFootstool · 15/06/2023 09:15

Use the drops. Build up the effects.

Take antihistamines.

Close the windows and doors.

Change your pillowcase just before bed every night. Wash your face and hair before bed every night.

Wash / splash your face today with plenty of water. Wear sunglasses as much as you can.

rileynexttime · 15/06/2023 09:16

Allevia at the moment .Take regularly.

PictureConsequences · 15/06/2023 09:18

rileynexttime · 15/06/2023 09:18

My son is really suffering this year, he's on fexofenadine but I'm taking him back to the GP because I think he needs a higher dose. He hasn't been able to open his eyes every morning; it's been awful this year and the drops don't seem to work.

PositiveLife · 15/06/2023 09:21

Wear sunglasses as much as possible.
Keep windows closed.
You could try a different antihistamine as well as the current one.
B&M or Home Bargains sell some hayfever relief wipes that are really good (like a wet wipe)

toomuchlaundry · 15/06/2023 09:24

I use non medicated barrier nose spray in between doses of hayfever tablets as the tablets definitely don’t last all day and that seems to help reduce symptoms for a few hours

Swearwolf · 15/06/2023 09:26

My whole family is really suffering this year! The only thing I haven't seen suggested already, we have a couple of these eye masks: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eye-Doctor-Allergy-Inflammation-Migraines/dp/B07NW7VQ3K/ref=asc_df_B07NW7VQ3K/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309940318982&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3523244849303306786&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006739&hvtargid=pla-672041248001&psc=1
You keep it in the fridge and just wet it before use, it's that special cooling fabric and really helps to bring the swelling down.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/06/2023 09:27

You can take Allevia plus other antihistamines too, check with the pharmacist. Keep using the antihistamine drops as they work better with regular use. Beconase nasal spray too seems to help my eye flare ups.

WinchSparkle80 · 15/06/2023 09:29

Opticrom eye drops seem to be way better than the rest.

Opticrom 2-4 times a day, plus Allevia

Peridot1 · 15/06/2023 09:29

I find the Opticrom drops best. And yes like the medication you have to keep taking them for them to build up.

my current regime is Allevia at night and a nasal spray in the morning and drops throughout the day. This week has been the worst for me but I think it’s mainly because I was given three bouquets of flowers last week which are in the house. I don’t normally have flowers in the house. They will go today as they are now past their best.

Storynanny1 · 15/06/2023 09:33

Benydryl 8 hourly tabs - one in the morning and one about 4 pm
Opticrom eye drops all through the day
sunglasses on all day
windows - doesn’t seem to make any difference to my eyes open or closed.
there seems to be 2 main drugs for hayfever so try a different one — for me and son who suffers badly , whatever drug is in benydryl works for us but the other drug does absolutely nothing

underneaththeash · 15/06/2023 09:34

Firstly are you sure that it's hay fever, other eye conditions can give you can itchy eye such as a viral conjunctivitis.

As well as recommending the nasal spray, your doctor can prescribe ant-histamine drops like olopatadine (which is actually an anti-histamine drop and mast cell stabiliser combined).

toomuchlaundry · 15/06/2023 09:53

Every year I look at the flowers in my garden through my hayfever eyes and wonder why I keep growing them!

Cold, damp flannel across eyes whenever I can, especially to go to sleep.

Mine is more tree pollen than grass.

rileynexttime · 16/06/2023 09:18

Update - following the instructions on the eye drops bottle helps, who'd have thought Wink
But thanks @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and@PinkFootstool

I like the sound of that @underneaththeash .
Sadly it really is impossible to contact my GP - e consult form required but surgery's capacity to accept is exhausted 60secs after 8am each day .

It might come online before 8am - mine does.

Obvious but assume you're not wearing eye makeup?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/06/2023 09:31

I have a pollen screen on some windows so that I can have them open.

BigFloppa · 16/06/2023 09:34

I use nasonex nasal spray. It's literally life changing. I used to suffer so badly but now I start using the spray just before I normally get it and carry on until I don't need it anymore. I get it from online pharmacy!

worldwidetravel2017 · 16/06/2023 17:09

Was up @ 530am with a nose bleed thanks 2 hayfever
