Hello! I have a bad cold and for over 24 hours now have had very little voice. Am drinking plenty of hot lemon & taking Night Nurse but do any of you have any tried and tested tips for getting your voice back.

Thanks!

Rest it. Don't whisper - at all. Drink loads of water and keep on with the hot lemon. Don't take throat sweets, as they dry it out and make it worse. Suck mints to keep your mouth lubricated. Rest it some more. Remember not to whisper. Very very gently massage the wobbly bit of your throat (or not wobbly) - the bit where your Adam's apple would be if you were a man - do this really really gently. Rest it some more. Don't whisper! drink more water. And more.

Get some Sanderson's Throat Specific from the pharmacist - actors swear by it, worked a treat for me when in school play and lost voice on opening night! And agree, rest.

Garlic and honey are natural antibiotics and work very well on colds and sore throats.

Crush a tablespoons worth of garlic mix with honey and swallow. It's notas bad as it sounds. If you can't stomach that, crush garlic mix with butter and spread it on some toast.

I would also second the hot lemon drinks. HTH

Glad you're feeling a bit better. DS could probably cope with a story tape for one evening, rather than you reading to him; you really shouldn't risk it.

I'm a teacher who has suffered from very serious voice loss problems in the past and have learned to take no risks whatsoever with my voice, as it's the main tool I need for my job!

I once lost my voice for months because I thought it would be okay to read a story to a class when I had a sore throat! So sorry to nag but please continue to rest it!
