I posted on here not long ago on here that I have been referred for a hysteroscopy to remove a submucosal fibroid which the doctor believes is likely impacting my heavy period and would impact fertility. I am age 34 and he mentioned AMH is a bit of the low side at for my age and is at level 12 but he is not too concerned it will effect me conceiving. Ultrasound scan was done and no signs of PCOS found but I understand endo cannot usually be detected on ultrasound

Yesterday I had the consultation at private hospital and now I have another recommendation that it would be good idea to have a laparoscopy done at same time to out rule endometriosis. The doctor said my low AMH and heavy periods could be linked to that. On NHS lead times are 12 months plus. Hysteroscopy I can afford from saving but Laparoscopy is a bit more invasive and more costly. Doctors believes I may as well have both op's done at once.
Me and dh do have savings aside for the laparoscopy but I am still torn whether I should get it done.
Other than heavy periods I don't have typical symptoms such as cramps during period, pain during sex or pelvic pain, the issues I have had could just be due to the fibroid so just concerned I would be paying extra money unnecessarily but it may be worth still getting it done for peace of mind..

My options are either just get hysteroscopy for now and see if it resolves symptoms of heavy period and chances to conceive within a year and potentially still stay on nhs referral list for laparoscopy to get that done at later stage.

Or I get laparoscopy done fork out the money but have peace of mind and hopefully rule out anything else impacting my periods and fertility.

Any advice appreciated ladies, as torn what to do..

Hmm tough as you are paying for it, but would you spend the next 12 months wondering if it is endometriosis if you don’t do it and you don’t conceive?
Fertility really does decline a lot quicker from mid 30’s onwards so another year then a lap, then any treatment/recovery, personally (having had multiple IVF’s in my 30’s to have a DC,even though it was male factor infertility) I’d not want to wait.

@CalamityCara yes that is true. I worry regretting it if I leave it and still another 12 months later I don't conceive. I don't want to feel like more time has been wasted..
I don't have private medical insurance so would be a lot to fork out but in the scheme of it people spend 5k plus without worry on new cars or kitchen renovation and health is important

Hi I know this is an old post but currrently in similar position as yourself. I am booked in for private lap next month and we been referred for ivf on nhs. Currently can’t decide whether to go for lap or not

I had a hysteroscopy in the end I do think that helped by chances of conceiving as I became pregnant 4 months later after nearly 2 years trying. I also had a hycosy the same month I conceived so anecdotally that could have helped also..

I would say your decisions depends also on how long you are willing to wait as heard wait times can be a while for these op's on NHS. Also depends what age you are on if ivf needs to be rushed. Where I live cut off age to start ivf would have been 35, but luckily I fell pregnant 2 months before I would have started the ivf referral..
