What do the NHS recommend/prescribe for a fungal nail?

I have a fungal nail for more than a year and I went to the doctor last year who texted me the name of some treatment.
Unfortunately my phone died and I lost the text.
Can anyone tell me the name of the treatment GPs normally recommend?
I know it cost about £14.

Obviously I could call them but it's such a palaver.

I don't know the answer to your question, but my husband has a longstanding fungal condition on his toenails which he is self-medicating with Vick's Vapour Rub, following advice he found online. Hmm He thinks it's helping, and I wouldn't have thought it could do much harm. There are apparently various over the counter fungicides you could get in a chemist.

Ask a pharmacist.

I went to a podiatrist recently for something else and he recommended white vinegar and canesten.

I had a fungal nail infection that I could not shift for a year with commercial remedies.
I bought some sterilising tablets and soaked my foot in the solution a couple of times a day.
Wore open toed sandals, applied tea tree oil at night. Fixed it in about 6 weeks.

This is from the NICE CKS - the clinical guidelines GPs will generally follow.

The only thing that worked for me was Terbinafine on prescription which you can't take for very long. It also gave me bad indigestion. My problem kept recurring until I realized I can't wear nail varnish on my finger nails although my toenails are OK.

Some podiatrists use laser.

scholl have a fungal mail treatment. It involves filing the nail and applying the liquid

I had a nail infection (fungal) and used an extra strength boots paint on formula with the file plus tea tree oil. Took almost a year to grow out fully.

What you need to do is avoid damp feet in eg slippers as I believe this is what causes the infection. So footwear you need to bin or treat. Can get sprays for footwear.

Emtrix! Someone here recommended it and it worked, after persevering and getting nowhere with Nailner.

Thanks for this.
I'm sure this is what I was told to use.
Interesting that it advises against tea tree oil which the previous post suggests.
