Help ingestion of small amount of "magic sand" by 2 y/o - should I be taking to doctor?

DD seems to have eaten a small amount of magic sand, having dropped her flapjack in some which her older siblings were playing with whilst my attention was distracted. Can't find any info on web or original instructions. Should I be panicking / taking her to A And E?

ring NHS direct, they should know.

slyandgobbo · 21/02/2008 18:39

Ah good idea, belgo - why does one never think of this stuff?

I wouldn't worry. It's a safety approved child's modelling material, and I'd be very surprised if ingestion would cause any problems.

Ring NHS direct if you're unsure.

i am inclined to say no - it is a small amount that she will have ingested.

info on magic sand

I looked up trimethylsilanol toxicity and it seems to only be relevant where larger quantitied were ingested e.g. if she were to eat a whole boxful.

I can see why you are worried but given that it is a roduct for children I am sure that the manufacturers must have to take into account the possibility of accidental ingestion.

It's lurid red rubbish, though, but you may well be right, Desiderata - it would seem odd to sell it if it were really toxic given that kids will get it on their hands. Thanks

and thank you chibi - a much more adept use of the web than I managed!

DS once ate garden compost with a lime base.

I rang NHS direct, they got the poisons unit in some top London hospital to call me, they did and told me he would be fine.

So if lime based compost is not a problem, fret not about playsand you evil, negligent mother.

P.S Bet you were MNing ...

Desiderata · 21/02/2008 18:48

I threw ds's magic sand away at the stroke of midnight about three months ago. I'm not normally so heartless, but the stuff just annoyed the hell out of me

slyandgobbo · 21/02/2008 18:49

Oh Bree, it was worse than that. I was surreptitiously eating chocolate covered marshmallows.
It's been a hard half-term...

God I hate the stuff - funneling it back into its silly little bottle. binwards it goes.

Good decision, sly. And if she asks where it's gone just say it disappeared because it's magic.
